Electronic Memory Wire

I found a Webster-Chicago Model 180 Electronic Memory Wire Recorder hidden in my office at my church, any one have any good info on these? This thing is interesting. I found some old spools with recordings on them from 1955, can I salvage it, adn transfer it to my computer? If so how?

Wow.

Back in the dark ages, my dad's secretary took dictation on a wire recorder. He showed it to me once - pretty cool.

Seems like a good electronics tech should be able to tap into the output to that tiny little speaker and run it through an ADC to get it onto a computer. It's beyond me, though.

Or if the unit actually still *works*, you could simply mic the speaker, then clean it up on your computer.
