OCTANE rocks, yes, until you discover horrible design flaws in the middle of a session! it has a well known phantom power issue. it has been all over the boards. when you engage phantom power a hum appears. and a loud one. mine developed this problem even further. when I swithed on PP on channels 5-8 a loud hum appeared. BUT ON CHANNEL 1 where NOTHING was plugged in!!!
???? What the...
I would stay away from M-Audio chineese crap. really.
I'll probably buy ADA8000 to replace now missing 8 channels.

That's news to me. I've had my Octane for close to two years now, it's a veteran of many sessions, with never a problem.

Since you don't want yours anymore, I'd be happy to give you $50 for it, knowing that it has a hum problem... ;)

PS : before you slam all Chinese-made products, you'd better look where the ADA8000 was made.

You know he'll stick that octane on ebay and claim it's in "perfect" working order in a "smoke free" enviroment. I hope nobody gets scammed.

I don't have it anymore. as I said. I RETURNED IT to the store and took Toft ATC-2 instead.

yes, ADA8000 is chineese, but is also priced cheenese.
and my SP mics are also chineese. and my ATC also chineese, but they are all made very well because of good quality control by PMI audio.
Can't say that for OCTANE as in the start it had knobs that almost fell off, half of them were aparently from another series as some had a smooth finish and some were more raw feeling. the unit produced a buzzing sound that was loud enough to drive you crazy after a while and it had the above mentioned problems.

and please don't give me this ebay crap as i wouldn't do a thing like that.
i once bought a synth (quasimidi sirius) from ebay for $ 600. well $ 600 spent for a malfunctioning sirius. it never worked properly. sold it then for half the price to someone who hoped to repair it. i avoid ebay now as much as possible. it just too risky.

Sorry - I missed the part about you returning it. I'm sure you'll love your Toft unit, and you're right - the QA and service at PMI is great! I too own some of their stuff and really like it.

Anyway, sorry you got a lemon. Mine's a peach!

Hey, I just realized i have more chinese stuff that i initialy thought!
but some of the stuff is built really nicely.

- Toft ATC-2 - i would never think it's built in china. made reall well and it sounds even better.
- C1 & C4 mics - heavy, tough, sound good.
- VOX tonelab - built reasonably well. i'd say built in japan not china. but it's chinese.

BUT other chinese made gear i have just screams out CHINA!
- Novation REMOTE SL37 - cheap plastic, woobly knobs and sliders, the cap of the joystick falls off very quickly, BUT great keyboard and displays
- EMU 1820m - i'm not completely sure it's built in china, but actualy the built quality of audio dock is so poor that i'd say it's built in taiwan not even in china

sorry. went a bit off topic. won't do it again. promise. just had to write this.
