I use Sonar 5 PE. I notice when I use Audio tracks Sonar give me lots of EQ's and such. But when using midi track for synths, theres no choices. How can I get same choice for my midi tracks so I can EQ and such.Right now I use whatever the soft synth offers. Mach V is good becuase I can apply to each track. Motu Symphonic is an overall EQ or Reverb. No seperation. Any ideas would be great.
 
MIDI tracks are nothing but computer instructions to your processor for synthesizing sounds. You can't EQ or reverb or compress computer instructions, you have to have an actual audio file to do that.

Therefore what you probably need to do is to save/export the MIDI tracks as audio (WAV) files first, then import them back in as audio tracks.

An alternative is to apply the effects in your synths before they get to Sonar.

Thanks, I will do. I only thought it was easy when I read solo's post about EQ'ing midi synths. Seemed it was easier, or I misread. "Tips when working with synths". Motu only seems to have an overall EQ'ing and such.
 
I use Sonar as a multitrack and not as a sequencer - but I do seem to recall that you need to output the midi track to an audio track. That is where you add your effects.
The manual or Sonar Help function will explain how to do it.
 
If you are using a DXi or VST instrument, Sonar will ask you when you instantiate it what tracks you want to create. you should select MIDI source, and I can't remember the other one. Basically a MIDI track and an Audio track...you can run audio effects on the audio track...

If you don't do things this way, do what the other guy said...Create an audio track...route the MIDI track output to the Audio track input....record that section of audio.
 
Yeah just bounce the tracks off as audio files and you're away :)
 
Finally found some time to do this. The manual says I can Export it or more easy, just hit Edit/Bounce to tracks. That will change my midi to audio. When I do either of these a dialog box comes up saying "The specified selection did not contain any audio. Please ensure that the selection contains the audio data you wish to bounce"

Than I tried adding Audio track, set input to my Tasscam 1082. Arm track and hit record. Nothing records. All 3 ideas seemed to dry up on me. Any ideas were I'm screwing up?
 
What midi synths are you using? Assuming they are software synths, you probably just need to make sure you are selecting and routing the tracks the way Sonar wants you to.
 
update. The bounce to tracks does work, I stupidly just selected the clip with the midi. I was supposed to select that and the the soft synth track. duh.....Now all is good.
