Effects.. serial or parallel?

I'm new at this stuff and I'm using a Sony DPS-V55 for effects. When applying a combo reverb and delay patch to a track (in this case a vocal), which should come first and why?

Reverb/delay
or
Delay/Reverb

Serial or parallel?

Do you want to put verb on an echo, or put echo on a verb*?
