you can apply effects both before or after recording a track. Each track should have a little tiny button to the top and right hand of it's mixer channel. When you find that button, there's a screen to apply effects as well as control the volume of that track. There are two blank lists for adding effects. The blank list on the left is for adding effects to just that channel...meaning you can hear them while monitoring the track and after recording it.
