im just setting up a new line of effects and thought i ask 2 simple questions.

1. i heard that with each effect u use, u loose 10% of your tone. is this tru?

if so, would running it thru my amp effects loop eliminate this problem?

2. How do i use the effects loope? it has a send and return. So do i plug the output of an effect into the 'sends', and plug the 'return' to my input? - and plug my guitar into the standard input?

thnx in advance :)

FX send from your amp goes to the imput of your FX unit.
The output of your unit goes to the FX return.
Your guitar plugs into the normal imput you would use.
If your lucky you may have a knob that says FX send, use this to adjust the amout of signal you send through the FX loop (if you have one of course!)
Not sure about this 10% thing, but whenever you "change" the sound, ie:adding FX, your tone will change.
Hope this helps.

a couple of thoughts

first off, not to be a smartass.......
it is INput not imput. in / out

that being said.

I have seen many people, especially guitarists, run through several foot pedals serially, and i run through several and then into rack units.

I would say with some explination, that you don't LOOSE very much signal by doing so.

Now, every device you send the signal through probably changes the "tone" a little, and injects some of it's noise into the signal. By chaining many units, you would end up with a lot of signal noise injected.

I think this is just about the oppisite of loosing tone, but it essentially has the same probable effect overall..

Most likely, the cheaper the units are, the more noise they will most likely inject into your signal path.

That is why when we record, we (Blue Bear and MassiveMaster probably know more about this than anyone) will talk alot about matching and ultimizing gain stages and stuff, to get the purest signal into the recorder that we can.

So, the ultimate answer is .........

listen to you stuff, and you decide what is acceptable

good luck
