i am currently using BOSS pedals, but never tried other brands. can u recommend ?

i have 6 BOSS and an mxr, and the mxr is up there as one of my favorites. try some other ones out?

totally depends on the effect we are talking about. I tend to be more of a weirdo-fx person. I just have this innate tendency to shy away from popular brands like Boss. I have used many of them, but don't ever seem to buy them.

Check out Z-Vex effects, Electro-Harmonix, but again it depends on what you like.

I am a fuzz distortion guy, and love my Dallas-Arbiter Fuzzface, also the ZVex Fuzz Factory.

Fulltone makes some great stuff, Barber, Menatone....check out musictoyz.com for a huge listing. :D

TC Electronics has great effects. They're really expensive though.

I don't like Digitech pedals, but Boss has ALWAYS been a great company so I tend to stick with them.

Like what the above posts have said....alot of off-name brands have great effects pedals. You should go to your local store and try out EVERYTHING and find a sound you like.

Check custom effect shops. Handmade stuff's always better than Chinese factory products. And often even the price isnt that different.

ross (not a typo) used to make some great pedals, like their compressor and distortion.
Dod was also great some time ago (i don't like their newer pedals)

Also check out ibanez (tubescreamer) for great overdrive, Proco RAT for distortion, coloursound (gotta love their octivider and wha's), danelectro, Maestro, Dunlop, Frantone, Guyatone, Visual Sound, Voodoo Lab, Xotic, Foxx, Marshall, Univox, Vox, Mutron, Dan Armstrong

Gain, I hate to resort to always pluggin the site, but try www.diystompboxes.com. You can make your own, or learn to mod factory-built pedals and match them to your tone's needs.

Again, it really depends on what you need. Electro-harmonix makes good pedals. MXR's are solid and reliable, boss pedals are okay, but they're not true-bypass (although this may not matter, it's more of an elitist demand). Because Boss pedals in bypass mode actually send the signal through a buffer(even when it's "clean"), they're often recommended at the beginning of a chain of pedals, because the buffer helps to "push" the signal through the longs mess of cables.

Digitech makes good pedals, but not very many great-sounding ones. Their Whammy is classic (I love mine, even though I never use it Z-Vex pedals (www.zvex.com). Pricey, but unique and fun.I'm going to be making a DIY version of the Lo-fi Loop Junkie.

Try as many as you can.

I think the original DanElectro pedals were some of the best made.

I've played with a couple of Sans Amp pedals that were pretty interesting. There was a distortion pedal that was particularly nice. Come to think of it I never tried it with a guitar. Made some cool tones with a bass and a keyboard though. My buddy got a damn fine deal on it, but if you get stuck paying retail I think it is pretty damn expensive, about $300.

ROCKTRON makes some neat pedals, guyatone has some good ones, some, and they make some decent ones under the FLIP name as well, their tube metal monster is pretty cool and I got a flip vintage tremolo that is pretty sweet but a little on the noisy side.

The Ibanez tube screamer is a classic 'overdrive' :)

I'm using a Pro-Co Deucetone RAT for more fuzzy distortion stuff - that's a beast!

I've got some Boss, and they're great for certain things (like delay), but for effects that are more outside of the box I'm more of a fan of Danelectro. There are a few pedals from companies other than them (Like the Gonkulator from Digitech, I believe), but for the price you cannot beat Danelectro.

Its been a while since I used dedicated guitar pedals. But when I did (about 10-12 years ago) I used to use Digitech and Boss pedals. I personally prefer the boss pedals over the digitech not only because (in my opinion) they sounded better, but they were built better. In other words they could take a beating. :o

I have a few Boss pedals...they been good for several years.
Stay away from those new $20 Behringer pedals....
A buddy had one, and I was testing it.....when I stepped on it lightly to turn the chorus off (it was a UC200 Chrous pedal), it busted. CHEAP PLASTIC, awful!

So I reached in my pocket and gave him $20....now we're even :D
