I certainly do not intend to come across like I’m taking sides here, because I’m not - But I had to pop in and say that as far as ability is concerned having an EE doesn’t automatically make someone a knowledgeable designer. In my 20 years of professional experience in the electronics field, at least half of the engineers I’ve worked with did not hold college degrees, but most (not all, but ‘most’) of them were “movers and shakers”. They were the ones who quickly came up with great working designs that made the companies I worked for untold amounts of money. At the same time there were highly degreed engineers sitting right next to them that were thrown out the door because they couldn’t design squat without it being costly and full of holes. No need to tell you which one I would hire if I needed a design engineer.alanhyatt said:...Of course you can surprise all of us by showing us your EE degree and some products you have designed and built.

It's been like that at most places I worked at over the years too.Flatpicker said:I certainly do not intend to come across like I’m taking sides here, because I’m not - But I had to pop in and say that as far as ability is concerned having an EE doesn’t automatically make someone a knowledgeable designer. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not saying having an EE is a bad thing because I also know a lot of good EE degreed designers too. I’m just saying that in my experience, having an EE degree doesn’t make you any better or worse a designer.
Just thought I’d throw in my $0.02 here...![]()

What product did you designed all by yourself? Years ago I worked on our 455 (tank radar system)... I didn't design it, but I came up with some idea's that where added... so can I say that I helped design the 455 like you do with the B1?

I think your right, so I have no argument... I don't think Alan has designed anything either... I think he just provides cash and maybe some idea's here and there... but his main gig is sales.freshmattyp said:I guess I don't remember the part where Alan has ever claimed to have designed anything all by his lonesome. On the contrary, he usually proudly proclaims who collaborated with him and his staff. I'd love to see a link from you, but then you usually don''t let evidence get in the way of a good argument.

Everybody has probably contributed a snotty, infantile post to a discussion board at one time or another. But... Alan Hyatt has contributed so many that I have determined never to buy a friggin thing from his company. He has offended my sensibilities and polluted this board.
