my band recorded a cd in 2003. i have wanted to remix the tracks to get more of the sound i want but i only want to edit what is there. i don't have anything to plug in. just the cd and my laptop. is there editing software that will allow me to insert the cd and view the tracks? (like protools, etc) i want to get at the main multi track recordings for editing. any suggestions?

how about you just answer my question. if you don't have the info i need, then don't waste my time and yours

You won"t be able to seperate the songs into seperate tracks (Guitar,Bass,Vocals,Drums ect) as they are allready mixed and can not be undone....

You can put the individual songs into an audio editing program like (Sound Forge, Adobe Audition, Goldwave ect) and add filters and effects to try to get more out of the Music but you can not really improve what isn"t there, you can only try to mask the undesireable qualities of the sound....

Good luck

There's a plugin available called Izotope Ozone that is sort of a mastering suite. I'm not sure how your tracks are sounding at the moment, but I would wager that you could get them sounding at least a little better, louder, and punchier if you tweaked enough in Ozone. You'd need a host application first to run the plugin, like Sonar. There are other free software solutions out there like Audacity.

I'm not sure, but I think it can run VST or DirectX plugins, so it should be able to run Ozone. (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Even if you get that for free though, Ozone still costs $250. You can use the fully working demo for 10 days though if you can get your tracks done quickly enough.
