I've recorded a few songs and I want to clean them up a little. I have Audacity, but I don't understand the editing process. I want to add a little echo to my voice and polish the recording. It sounds "raw" as it is.

What I really don't understand is what the controls mean. Every effect I click on is Greek to me. What should I focus on?

I don't have a lot of experience with Audacity. What effects are you using and what are the parameters?

I would strongly suggest you try Reaper. Full featured program for only $40. The trial version doesn't expire so you can try it out as long as you like (and there are no limitations).

Once you get that, you can download any FX plugin you want and that really opens a lot of doors. :)

That's the thing, I don't even know what parameters are. I know absolutely nothing about editing or what any of the terminology means.

you should focus on doing research :)

seriously, there are loads of articles out there teaching you all about how to mix, what processors and effects do, what their controls do etc...

If I were you I would track down some sample audacity projects for you to play around with and learn.

Get a free demo of a shareware app like Reaper, N-Track or Kristal. Spend 5 minutes reading the basic instructions that come with the app and then just experiment with it. Each time you get stuck on something come here and use the search function.

Audacity's good for simple editing but not practical for processing.
