I know a LOT of people who seem to think "future proofing" works, but I ALWAYS see them purchasing another item to replace it in the future, before the 'future' even gets here... So you got a PCI card NOW, in 5 years if they stop making PCI stuff, does that mean your computer is going to crash and die because it said pci life line just went flat?

I remember when we were all going to be recording to mini-disc. Who knows what the future will bring?

I almost bought into one of the Yamaha multitrack MD's. The guy was trying to sell it hard, and I decided against it. Think my next purchased was the Roland digital 8 track.

Who knows what the future will bring?

Haven't you heard? The death of PCI. :D

In that case, I recommend buying numerous PCI sound cards immediately!!! In a few years, (or perhaps months with the speed computer technology changes) thest will be VINTAGE cards, going for big bucks to get that vintage PCI sound.

I'm not sure how this thread moved from a firewire based Echo Audiofire 12 to a pci discussion, but I will say this. I just bought two Audiofire 12's on Thursday from these guys because of the deal they're running. When they get here, I'll have four running on on pc. Apparently the prices are going way up at Namm in a few weeks (which seems reasonable to me because imo, they just absolutely smoke a lot of the high end converters out there.) So my vote also goes in that the 12 is very hard to beat and there's nothing remotely similar in quality for the price.

I have had good experiences with the Delta 1010 and can get a really accurate sound with it, however, if you have the money to buy three I would strongly suggest going to firewire.

Apart from the reasons I have read above, for the money, if you go firewire you are able to get a reasonable amount of XLR ins and mic pres for your money with it. I recently bought the Presonus Firepod and that has XLR ins which are pretty nice. I havn't used it extensively enough to give a full verdict, but two thumbs up so far!

The Delta 1010 is certainly nice, but if you are going to be using a lot of analogue channels, you will want XLR ins, the 1010 only has 2 XLR ins and the rest are phono. (Sorry for stating the obvious)

I will admit though that of the above, I have only had experience with the Delta 1010, so cannot comment on how good or bad the others are.

I believe that we are talking about the Delta 1010 rackmount in this thread. It has 8 TRS inputs/outputs and two channels of spdif. To this end I will be getting an Echo Audiofire 12 in the next week or so. I'm looking at replacing my aging Delta 1010. This may be a farely lateral move, but I'm looking to record w/ my laptop, and I'll be getting two extra channels. Even if the quality is comparable (which I'm hoping) this will be a step up. Along w/ this I will be auditioning a Metric 2882. Let's hope my ears/room is good enough to hear a difference. I'll post more when I have them all in my hot little hands.

I think I have made my decision despite the poll's results. I will be getting an echo in the next couple weeks. Thanks guys.

After reading this thread and doing a ton of research, I'm probably also going to be ditching my 1010 and picking up an Audiofire 12. Been having some PCI stability issues on my 754 board anyway (from one of the first nForce4 runs, haven't had a problem with until just lately). Looks like the Audiofire is equal to or better than the Delta in pretty much every way.

I have a Delta 1010LT and it works great for me. Don't know why I have never thought of hooking 2 up before. DUH!!! hehe. I am thinking of buying an Audiofire12 though. Looks great.

I've been using deltas (1 for afew years and 2 over the last 7 months) and I've had nothing but brilliance from them, rock freakin' solid...
