I got an EMU 0204 but I think it only transfers mono tracks...could someone recommend me something that does stereo tracks? thanks

The EMU 0204 is at least 2 channel (maybe 4) USB. I didn't read all the specs, but it says 2 in/4 out.

Caveat: I've never used an 0204. But, if your problem is that you only see mono ins in your DAW instead of a stereo input, the only way I can think of to describe the problem is that maybe you are only able to use mono inputs, but you have two of them. If so, just send the left channel through one input and into one track and send the right channel into another input and to another track. Pan them wide and mix down.

There are two inputs on the 0204 that can take instrument or line level signals. These would come from your 488 via two RCA line-level outputs. It communicates with your PC via USB. Your DAW software should be able to handle all this. Need to know a little more about what you want to record in order to figure out why you have a problem with this.

From his other thread I gather he's got RCA outs and 1/4" ins and that's the problem. Adapters will solve the problem, I think.

Yep, you posted a great reply there showing the adaptors. I often use RCA to RCA with the 1/4" adaptors. I wasnt totally sure of the nature of the problem. Will wait for some responses

You're train of thought is sort of --- questionable here.
There's really no such thing as "stereo" -- "Stereo" is whatever you assign to it. Don't think "left" and "right" -- Think "1" and "2" (and "3" and "4" etc., etc.).
Everything transfers mono tracks. All tracks are mono. Where you route them is up to you. If you want to route "1" to the "left" I/O and "2" to the "right" I/O (that "left" and "right" again being more "virtual" things, as you they're only "L/R" as long as the rest of the chain is also L/R), which is pretty common, there you go. But a "stereo" (track, input, output source, etc.) is only two mono sources with a difference between them. "Stereo" is that difference between 1&2 (or L&R if that's how they're routed).

Hi all, tried this out and got the track to the Pc with audacity but it just sounds....flat?...compared to headphones in the 488. is this commonw hen transferring analogue to digital or is there a more common way round it? thanks
