I have new hp laptop, an eight channel pre-sonus firepod. I have never recorded on my computer before and am looking for a very simple to use program. any suggestions?

could you expand on that? What kind of recording are you doing?

lol--I just noticed your name. I am assuming just recording yourself. Well, I broke into the computer recording side of things when I picked up Cakewalk guitar tracks at Best Buy for like $50. It was an 8 track program that was pretty self explanitory. I used that to learn my way around then I moved up to Pro Audio 9. I think they still self a pretty cheap version of Guitar Tracks on MF or Zzounds.com. It is not the best stuff out there but it is easy to use and a good learning tool.

kind of recording

rock
guitar, bass drums, keys, vocals.

I'm a cakewalk Sonar user, and have also used the new Sonar Home Studio that is out. I like the cakewalk line, but I grew up with it starting back in Pro Audio 9, much like Thunder33 (watch out for the AutoBots Thunder, HA!)

Anyways, I believe that your Firepod came with a copy of Cubase LE. I would suggest giving that a shot, and also maybe trying out a demo of Cakewalks Sonar. Other choices that many use would include n-track, and traktion. I think you can download demos of those as well. Just download several demos, whichever program 'clicks' with you the best, stick with that one AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!!!!!!!!

You can download Audacity for free ( to have something to play with and get a basic idea of how digital recording works) to see if you really want to persue recording. Audacity is simple to use and will work with most pcs and soundcards and is a good starting point. You can always install better programming later when you decide what you want/need. I started with Cakewalk Music Creator and was totally lost in the beginning, haha I still am most of the time. I just wish someone would have told me about some of the simple programs in the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of frustration.

I second (third?) using the software that came with it. It works, it's free. They're all similar enough that which software you use is largely a matter of personal taste so try it out.
