does anyone know where i could find some "high fidelity" ear plugs...sometimes called musicians earplugs?

after net searching a while, i noticed that the er-15 and er-25 were the only ones i could find...but they were almost $200! i loose earplugs all the time...that's not gonna happen...

anyone ever seen cheaper ones anywhere?

Yo Ghetto Man:

You know, I grew up in the ghetto in Chicago; however, there wasn't any television around then to tell me I lived in the ghetto.

How about a pair of those noise reduces that are worn by dudes who work loading airplanes at, of course, airports? Seems that they would be much less that the price you have noted.

When I was a guest aboard my brother's Guided Missile Frigate back a few years, we were given little foamy ear plugs to use when we fired a .50 calibre machine gun. They might also work and I'm sure they are cheap as we got them free.

Hope this little bit of trivia helps you out.

Noise stoppers vs. Musical Earplugs

Noise stoppers aren't Musical Earplugs: Noise stoppers cancel some portions of the spectrum almost completely and others just barely. Musical Earplugs damp the entire frequency spectrum at the same level: flat frequency response.
I got myself a pair (two ears) of dr.Earplugs . I'll try to get you the URL.

ps. noise stoppers can be great when you're packing up the mobile PA rig and the DJ desides to pump up the volume of the house PA!!

The most popular ones on the drummer's newgroup are the Westones, available from hearing professionals.

Musicians friend used to advertise acoustically balanced earplugs for around $20, I don't know if they still sell them though.

At $200 bucks a pop I bet you wont lose quite as many. You have to pay for the custom fitted full spectrum ear plugs.

earlugs ER15

I have the ER15's custom earplugs...

Best investment EVER!!!! I play in a punk rock band with a very loud drummer. These things kick ass!! And they are soooo comfy, you don't even realize they are in. And plus you can even talk with them in and you don't yell, you can hear everything.

Sorry I'm raving here but. You can get ones that are not custom fitted and then get the filter to put on them.

I tried these, but the comfort and seal wasn't there. Plus they are great for going to loud concerts.

Check out Etymotic Research's plugs.

The ER-20s are good, and they have even better. Plus, you get to choose your color. Make mine translucent beige! Really, these plugs really reduce the levels evenly. I was wearing them at a loud show on Sunday and they made all the difference.

go to guitar center or any other music store. "Hearos" one of the more popular brands you'll find makes lots of diff kinds...ie: rock and roll, etc. They are all no good. Just made of foam, and they filter out only certain frequencies.

They make a kind called "hi fidelity" hearos. The offer a pretty even range of sound control. They are reusable, (you can clean them) and they work pretty well. They won't beat the $200 ones at all, but for 15 bucks, you can afford to lose them. They come with a carrying keychain case too

When I buy little things like that at GC, it's not something I am really willing to bargain over, and they know that so they charge high margins on little things. MY tactic is when they are punching things in on the computer, i just say "hey if you really want, you can lower the price on that"

It almost always works.....with cables strings accessories etc. I think I got the ear plugs for like 7 bucks.

Ask yourself how much you value your hearing.
More or less than 200$?

I know producers that had to quit because of their hearing loss.
