Whad'ya think of these mics? There's one on vocals and one on instruments. These are picking up everything and sounding awfully good in the process. I think anyway. Cool design too.

They have a purpose - but it’s not rock music - they work in Bluegrass - or solos/duos - acoustic based - I like them - in this example they may have some direct boxes or DI - the Volin sounds very upfront for single mic centered mic.

I was thinking the same thing. That bass is thumping through nicely too - louder than I would expect. Can't tell if it's plugged in.

I’ve never used one but I honestly think it’s their looks that sells them more than their performance.

In a live, large or treated stage or room you can use almost any mic with good results. I have heard them used a lot in live situations and never went away thinking I was hearing a special mic, though I’ve seen very good performers using them.

I could be quite wrong, of course, but I’d like to see some serious A/B tests against some of the A-T, Shure, et al. standards for those kinds of use cases.

They get good reviews but from different sources to the reviews we normally see? However, Sound on Sound, who I do trust said they were OK, but quirky. Review

I'm thinking one of these would sound better on an acoustic guitar than my AT2020 XLR. It's all subjective, of course. They seem to have more clarity in the midrange, or it might just be the quality and style of their singing voices and the particular instruments. I see he's playing a small body guitar.

I’m more a fan of SDCs for acoustic guitar these days. Opinions vary of course, and it depends on what the acoustic is doing in your mix. And, your [recording] space and mic placement probably impact at least half the result.

Of course, it’s a cool looking mic if you’re playing out and want to do a solo mic thing, maybe plugged in, too, i.e., using it mostly for vocal.
