Just a quick q wondering how the E-MU 1820 pres stack up against, say dmp3, audio buddy and...behris in ADA8000 (don't flame...)? Is it a significant difference?

I like them. I have the DMP3 and the ADA8000, and I think the E-mu are nicer. A tad better than the DMP3...much better than the Behri (which I don't think is that bad, honestly...) I can get more, cleaner gain out of them. Various VO guys through my CAD M177 and MXL V69 sound better through the E-mu pres...sounds more...full, I guess, than the DMP3. And I found out that I sound great through my OM2 through the E-mu pres for VO...

Thanks very much. Guess I'm back to square 1 with my decision though. 1820M (ouch pricey...) with some cheap pres for band stuff (any suggestions) or 1212M with ADA8000 into ADAT and separate preamp into analog ins for decent vocals etc. Any advice?

$499 is pricey?

I just spent $6,800 on a vocal booth from whisperroom, $2,400 on a GT Vipre, and that's just what I bought recently, the mic locker alone is $7,000...and $499 is pricey?

Get serious, give it your all, or take a walk home.

How do you know that she's not in a wheelchair?

OK, chill and let me clarify:

First I'm a bloke (though I did consider leaving you with false delusions that I'm some leggy blonde)

Second, what I meant my pricey was 'more' pricey. As in, I would rather spend less money than more if I can help it. If you think the converse there's a special word for you (hint-it ain't 'brainy'). Besides I can use the savings to buy better monitors, decent headphones, Antares Autotune, sound insulation...the list goes on)

antares auto tune does not go hand in hand with intelligent either. LOL
