I am looking into obtaining an e-drum kit for my studio. Any recommendations on which makes and models to get and which to stay away from?

Thanks!

I think Roland presently makes the best sounding modules available and would want at least a TD6 module or better if it were me. As for the rest of the kit, it could be any brand or you can even convert your own acoustic. It all depends on how much money you have to spend, how large you want your kit to be, and how you want it to look and feel. Whats your price range and application?

Well I have $1000 or so to spend, and it would be used for recording drum parts for a death metal project, so Ill need a good kick solution.

Well, of these two drummers, who do you think has the better sound.

Hellhammer of Mayhem & The Kovenant.

Nicholas Barker formerly of Dimmu Borgir.

Hellhammer uses a ddrum4 unit.
Nicholas Barker uses a TDM10 (TDM8 is a scaled down version of it - the drums essentially sound the same, the 10 just has better cymbal sounds, and a little more control over the parameters you can use.)

I use a ddrum2 unit, and it essentially sounds like a drumkit. the Vdrum sounds more electronic to me....but that may work better for you, I don't know.

I know Pete Sandoval, the drummer from Morbid Angel, uses a ddrum unit as well.

Does the DDrum unit include a triggering solution or would that just cover the drum module? Thanks!!

They make triggers that go on the drumkit, and they make entire electronic drumkits.

Probably 90% of the guys triggering from a regular kit are using ddrum triggers, they were the first really viable trigger that worked the way they were supposed to work.

When I saw morbid angel he wasn't using a digital kit. But then again, it was at a really crappy bar. (So maybee he has one he uses at nicer venues).

Either way that guy is SICK. It' like just when you think he's doing the fastest double bass you've ever heard, he'll double time it. He's insane.

He doesn't use a digital kit - he uses ddrum triggers and a ddrum module on a Pearl drum kit.

Opps.... Ok I just proved I'm an idiot.

Either way, that dude's awesome.
