I know you're probably all sick and tired of another "best choice monitor" question, and yes, I've searched the forum but haven't found any feedback from people who are using this monitor.

I've been thinking about buying a pair of these monitors and the usuall question is: how do they compare to other monitors in the same price range.
The prices in Europe might be a little diffrent to what they might be in the U.S.
I can get a pair of Dynaudio BM5 for 538€, and some competitors at the same price might be Tannoy Reveal active at 619€/pair or Tannoy System 600 passive at 539€/pair. Feel free to suggest others but I can tell you that I'm kind of sceptic to the "wannabe" monitors like behringer truth and Midiman Studiophile allthough I know some of you really like them.

And then there is a choice of amplifire if a passive monitor is choosen, my primary concern is: how much effect should it be able to deliver and what is the diffrens between the diffret power amps, I've seen a suitable amp at "thomann cyberstore" (www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_tamp_s150_prodinfo.html). Might this amplifire be to much of a "budget gear" or will it deliver what the monitors needs, in other words, what about quality, should I aim for a more serious piece of gear?

Should I maybe skipp this "low mid" area of monitors and maybe go with a pair of Tannoy System 600 active at 599€/piece or Yamaha MSP10 at 539/piece.

I can't comment on the Dynaudio's (I preferred Genelec over their bigger model, and i was told they're made in the same factory)..

My feeling is active monitors give you more bang for the buck, because you KNOW the amp is rated/suited for the speakers. Buying an amp off the net seems a bit strange to me, unless you heard the combination you want somewhere.. The picture looks kinda budgetty, but you never know how it sounds.

When searching for monitors I listened to the Tannoy Reveals (not the 600) and Yamaha MSP10's. The Reveals didn't have the high end I was looking for, especially not when comparing to Genelec 1030 or 1031. (if you can, try the Eclipse ones, absolutely disgusting mid)
The Yamaha sound ... well ... Yamaha. If you like the NS-10 sound, you'll like the MSP line, they sound alike to me. I'm a bass player and kinda picky on low detail.
I don't know the exact price of the Mackie 624 or KRK active speakers, but if you can, try them and try to listen to what makes them different and what you like and what not.

I went for the more expensive monitors in the filosophy that I'd rather have speakers that'l last me 10 years than changing cheaper ones every few years because of my recording ears improving.

Flames....

I am in the same boat with you.... I am in the market for a good pair of monitors, as well. I can't help you with this very much, but I wanted to pass along what I have discovered so far. From what I have read, the Dynaudio BM5 is compared to the B & W DM303.... the article goes as far as to say that you could mix the two and pretty much have a matching pair. Again, that is what I have READ and I have not actually listened to either one of them. I am leaning toward the Dynaudio BM5 because they are available locally for $500.00 and I have yet to find anywhere that I can purchase the B & W DM303.

As for the Yamaha NS10... well, I have read here and elsewhere that the high-ends are a bit much, requiring tissue paper over the tweeter in order to "dampen" the sound a bit.

I wish you luck in your search.
