here i have a dumb tune. its the first thing i ever posted so its ok! i just wanted to demo my sound...

the karaoke version doesnt have the awful vocal part so maybe that would be the better one to listen to.

i know i could have picked a more subdued reverb for the mastering. ha ha ha.

:p

its also the first thing i recorded on my new recorder!

I see you finally broke down and got yourself an avatar there, jeap. Hell... five more posts, and you got a custom one ;) Ok... downloading the tune with vox -- given the shit you just gave WATYF over his tune, I'm sure yours will be perfect :p

Chad

Your basic blues progression... very impressive mix and production jeap. Now I see why you throw your weight around the mic forum so much. You just might know something about recording. :p :D

Absolutely no suggestions for the production. As for the tune... it's very simple blues. It's okay if the right mood hits. Thumbs up.

Chad

I pretty much agree with participant, but will add that I really liked that lead tone...

something was different about this recording but I dont know what it is.. It's got a good sound that fits the song...

sam

wow thanks!

yes its just a blues...

i thought i'd start out simple and what could be more simple?

really tho theres 9th chords in there! and the "jimi hendrix chord--i forget what that is exactly.

oh yeah the avatar well... im kinda new at foruming and i dont know how to do anything. i couldnt see anybody else's avatars so i didnt know any better.

ive spent a number of years woodshedding the drums bass keyboards and recording cause i play guitar ok and i needed the other parts to sound decent.

i learned a lot about the production techniques by coming here and to HC forum and following all the links to more info. reverb and compression, etc.

:p

ha ha ha im a little surprised by the lead tone myself. i wasnt going for anything especially hot it just turned out that way. the real hot stuff breaks up lot more.

its kinda sloppy but i get tired of trying to tighten things up. i could spend the rest of my life trying for a tight take. i never play the same thing twice.

the next thing wont be blues and will probably have acoustic guitar.

Ok, I think something is realy noisy in the tracks?
Are you recording on tape?
but the mix is quiet good. and playing is tight.
don't know about the lead tone... you must be on neck pickup and are you going through processor for the sound? i guess it's just a preferrence thing anyway.

nice grove
cheers

yea on second listen, I did hear some tape hiss (first 1/2 second, or so)...

Chad

the hiss might be my maracas (shakers). they are the ebony plastic LP shakers which are very bright. i have them down in the mix to add a little body. they start right after the 4-e-and-a drum intro and im sure the timing is a little off.

there are also piano and organ in there which are hard to pick out except at the end. they add a lot of body and the whole thing would sound a lot different without them. they are played in a "call and response" fashion as are the 2 rhythm guitars.

thanks for the kind comments guys! i have been very nervous about the whole thing and i feel inspired now to do something much more substantial!

the guitar sound is from a roland vg88. its not a preset its something that i tweaked myself. its the first time i recorded it and its nice to record guitar without headphones!

LOLOLOLOL!!!!

i thought the same thing when i listened back to some of the vocals!

i may have to get some doors stuff and work on that!

:p

Let's Get Jiggy Wid It!

I listened to the singing version and found myself tapping my toes! Funny lyrics too, in a good way...

This was pretty cool.

Mixing wise the only feedback I have is maybe to up the drums a bit so the beat really stands out. Maybe lowering the verb a tad as well imo.

Overall I like this...it moves along nicely!

With that voice you could do a Doors Tribute album man.:D

To be True, the Morrison reference in the post made me listen. (in regards to the original post, I've a bad enough ear to know when to keep my mouth shut?))

That was kinda scary..........your vox are very reminisant of the late great J.D.M.........

That certain timbre with power, leadership, conviction and boyish uncertainty. F*ck, I sound like a little groupie:D

Anyway.........I liked the git tone alot as well. It slightly reminded me of the Buddy Guy tone on "Breaking Out. JSP sessions".

If this is new gear/recorder, then I don't think I can help you at all in the future!!!!!!!

Nice slop!

Peace,

Theron.

Listening...

I'm lovin' the hissy, lo fi quality. Nice guitar tone, tasty lickin. I like the tremelo guitar stuff. Bass and drums are drunk on Jim Beam. I love the psycho quality to this. You're making "clean" a dirty word on this one.

Okay, I'm drowning my sorrows in a bowling alley bar in Bemidji wondering why the hell your stuck playing in a hell hole like this in the middle of nowhere. I'm contemplating asking you what the f*** your on and where can I get some....

Very Cool...

Jon

very nice. it has a very "live" sound. It really sounds like a bunch of guys in the living room with a wooden floor. I agree with Corsair about the tremelo part. very cool. ;)

Next time Jeap, DON'T put 'dumb tune' on any of your submissions.
I moreless passed over this thread because of that, mostly due to time, but still passed over it nonetheless.

A very good job. The entire project sounded full. Like your style.

I listen againg at home on better phones and it did sounded better but thouse maracas are adding high end noise without contributing much else IMHO. It funny that jjtcorsair refered to it
as "hissy, lo fi quality". he liked it though :D (go figure)

One thing I don't like about digital distortion is "sandy crackling" in high freq tail of the sound (don't know if I describe it correctly). It gives it away for me everytime I hear digital distortion. every digi piece of gear I heard had it. So that's why I asked if you are using gtr processor.

fun tune man. more lirics could be good :D but it might actualy work as it is... haha

cheers

well!

you guys are great! i feel inspired!

the reason for the goofy words is that this song started and finished as allen toussaints "get out of my life woman" which was originally recorded by lee dorsey. i never had the lee dorsey version but i had an obscure jimi hendrix album called "birth of success" with a live version of it. i got it when i was maybe 14 out of a bargain bin at woolworth's!

well, when i read the terms at nowhere radio it says they dont want you to infringe so to be on the safe side i decided to change the words.

after kicking many pages of ideas around i looked for an ebonics page to get some inspiration and thats where the jiggy thing came from. i put "let's dance" in an ebonics translator and it came out "lets get jiggy wid it. ya dig?"

so i quick redid the vocal and slapped too much reverb on everything and put it up. ha ha ha.

the original get out of my life woman has verses that repeat the same line 3 times so thats why theres little variation.

really i just wanted to demo my sound which i think is pretty good for home demo recording!

:)

Hey jeap-ster. Nice goofy tune.

I liked the buzzy sound you got on the lead. I also thought the bass sounded real nice.

The words got a bit repetitive - could use a few different lines. The lines you did have were interesting though - I liked them.

I wanted the lead guitar part to move around a bit more. Its part was pretty confined to a relatively small spot on the neck.

But really - nice tune.
