So, I have used a 57 before, but I never owned one. Well, I bought one today.

Question, whats up with the cover? Is it supposed to be able to swivel around loosely? I noticed that if turned far enough it can turn the inside a bit when I have the base unscrewed.

My 57's both have covers that swivel freely.

I'm talking about the plastic covers that enclose the protective screens and thus the capusle.

Bothered me too when I got them, but they haven't rattled or had any adverse effects other than tingling my OCD complex.

Turning the plastic is ok - whatever you do, don't swivel the whole capsule or it WILL come off in your hands. Seen it happen, and it's not pretty.

Ya. Thats what ended the life of my AT 41a. lol

Thats why I was so upset initially on this one.

The capsule cannot come off in your hand. Just the pop screen cap. Under the caps is a lock ring. If the plastic cap comes off, it is a real hassle getting the ring inside, and having it lock to the body.

The capsule is firmly mounted in the body. The top part will unscrew. There you will find the wires going to the XLR connector. If you do unscrew it, don't let it dangle.

Ok, well something different must've happened to the one I saw ... I know the capsule was separate from the body ... but I guess I wasn't given the whole story on how it happened ... drunk drummers and protective sound guys aren't always bestest friends.:)
