thanks Larry. I guess it's me. It always seems hard to hear for me when playing thru a mic with elec. or a/c guitars, as well as drums. But like I said, it's me.

Thanks for the listen and comments, and I love your cd dude. Great tunz.

dan

I think most of us have some trouble hearing our acoustic instruments in a full band; good monitoring is SO important for that. I also think Mrs. dtb is gonna have to get you a mandolin with a built-in pickup for your birthday.

Thanks for your comments about my cd (the curious need only click on my "www" icon). ;)

Dan and Mac. Very sweet sounding tune. I checked out the remix on headphones, and I thought it was fine. The guitar and mando playing off each other was very nice. I can hear that Grateful Dead reference a little, but it reminded me even more of something else that I can't quite put my finger on:confused: Great job guys, and thanks for the contribution!

Twist

Larry, it's a funny thing. WNJ tonite was special. Some of the guys came by and we played some good shit. But David brought this early 50's Kay mando with one of then Jimmy Dean lipstick pickups factory installed. Man, a sweet sounding, sweet playing axe. I got first dibs.

twist, thanks for the listen. This was a great idea. And Bob did the shit.

Dan

Listened to both and the remix is better to these ears. The mando has more definition.

Very sweet sounding tune! This collab stuff is producing some fine results.

Great job to you both!

:D

Pedullist:....the flute idea is cool....I just might give that a try with Buck's guitar synth

Noooooo, no guitar synth! :)

Doesn't Dobro play flute?

Nice work guys. I really enjoyed this. The 4 minutes came up fast. Then it just stopped. I could have kept on listening for sure. :)

Another fine collab to add to the collection!

it flows and grows well. very nice job working together, a relaxing and interesting listen too. The only nit I have is hearing a lot of the mechanical action of the pick on the strings.

Hey Slim!...thanks for checkin' it out...glad you liked this one!

twist:....if you think of what that "something else" is I'd be inter-
ested to know what it was...

boydrj:...thanks for taken the time to check out both!....and I
agree....these collabs are coming out good...it was a cool
idea (Sluice!)

Pedullist:....if Dobro does play flute and would want to have at it...
by all means he can go right ahead.....or would that be
against "the rules"?:D

skids:..."4 minutes came up fast"...that's a great compliment...
thanks!....I did think about fading the tune (as TripleM
suggested) and may do that to see how it sounds....I'm
still playing around with the mix so who knows;)

Toki:...glad you enjoyed the listen....actually there was no pick...
you're probably hearing the percussive sound of my fingers
hitting the soundboard...the rhythm track was all pluckin'
and strummin' without a pick....thanks for the good review...
we appreciate it!

Much better fellas!

good mix....I am digging this jam for sure!

cool!:D

very nicely recorded, guys. Maybe the best sounding acoustic guitar I've heard here in the clinic - rich, full tone, but still enough transparency to allow other things to happen in the mix. So, what's yer secret???:D

Intro was gorgeous, dynamics built nicely, nice groove established, cool ending. Nice sound on Dan's mando too.

Only gripe would be that your lines kinda got in each other's way - seemed to be a trading off thing going on, but whoever wasn't on would still play a few notes under - that can work if you drop back to slower lines in a lower octave at a lower volume, but I was hearing one mostly-eighth-note pattern against another mostly-eighth-note pattern. Kinda reminded me of jamfest (just needed a couple MORE guitarists going into "the zone")

Still a very enjoyable listen, and the guitar underneath was like buttah...

I think jamfest needs a webpage for co-ordination of ride-sharing. Perhaps one could post their originating point and how many persons they could fit in their vehicle and-or those needing rides could enter their names and the points at which they would need to be picked up ... Could get huge that way.

I think jamfest should take over the entire world ...

Great sound guys!
Really nice acoustic tones.

Some fine playing there too.

I liked the mando, nice chops Dan!

Pete

nice collab.. sweet groove but there is some sort of boomyness or low end thing happening that doesn't agree with my speakers.. other than that I liked it a lot! nice work guys..

thanks joro. Bob is the mix guy. I just drink the beer. he he he

" but I was hearing one mostly-eighth-note pattern against another mostly-eighth-note", damn duc, if I new what the fuck that was I'd be as smart as Roel. he he he, thanks for the comments. Bob's guitar playing is sweet. Thanks for the mando comment. And as for getting in each other's way, well it was allowed, since we didn't know each other. he he he he, and yes, very jamfest like.

stud, which means it is mandatory for you to be there next year. Even though there's a chance you might have been, I just don't remember. he he he

muze, thanks dude. We had a great time on this one.

B. thanks man. check yo PM.

Dan

Did someone say HRC?

Liking the groove...

Little bit busy IMO... but nice tones!

Very cool to hear an instrumental collab. This has definitely got a cool "composed" jamming with the buddies vibe. I could hear a lot of little risks. It was nice. I think I would have liked a little more breathing room here and there to give my ears more of one thing to focus on now and then. I wonder if that could be done with the mix, bringing one instrument front and center to lead, then switch it up. There's a local band here called The Jerks of Grass that is about 7 guys sharing one mic in the center. They simply step forward toward the mic to take the lead. I wonder if that could be done with this mix.

Anyway, just some thoughts. Very glad you guys came through. I'm very familiar with Dan's stuff, and now it's good to hear some MAC2 playing as well. Thanks a lot fellas!

Whoa!!...I've been away from these boards a couple days and I come back to find folks are still checkin' this one out :) ....thanks to everyone who listened and know the compliments are much appreciated!

I'm STILL mixing this tune  ....and I want to thank everyone for their EARS and suggestions 'cause it has helped tremendously...when Dan was finished with his tracks they came with a "little story".....apparently he was jammin' with the tune gettin' the feel of it and it was extremely hot and humid (didn't want to lay tracks with the sound of a fan goin'...)....so he put things aside until that night (after a barbecue and some brews ;) ...) and laid down his tracks with the crickets in the background (...which you can hear during the intro...)....the more I mixed and listened to the tune it reminded me of being outside on a hot humid night in the country jammin' around a campfire (...jamfest?;) )....thus the title "Mando & The Firefly"....anyway, I realize the lead stuff is sometimes "busy" but it comes and goes...ebbs and flows....Sluice nailed it with his comments...and yes, I'm trying to capitalize on that "vibe".....the version that is posted now is mixed but NOT edited....also there is no automation of the volume levels of the instruments....the levels are set and what you're hearing is all Dan's expressive playing (..."jamming with the buddies"..."a lot of little risks"...).....when I read the comments about the fest I was sorry I missed out on it....but then when I worked on this tune, while the fest was in progress, it kinda made me feel like I was there in spirit at least...I'm glad folks are enjoying it!!!.....anyway, I'm a few days away from a "final" version (ha!ha!ha!:D ) and will post for those still interested in listening....thanks!

The rhythm guitar (an old beat up Yamaha...) was recorded in the sound booth with a Marshall V69 and MXL603.....the V69 through a Mindprint Envoice and the 603 through an RNC....both to a Q10 and into Sonar.

Mic configuration???

-d- (wasn't just saying I liked it to be nice - I wanna STEAL this sound...:D )

Gotta comment on this, since my herb-buddy is on it :D

Almost a Spanish guitar approach... very nice.... pre's a li'l noisy, but acceptable :) Strumming very prominent in the mix, but provides good percussion.

Kinda Classical Gas... tasty slab o guit-meat... a touch of funk...

The sounds fit together very nicely... dtb's a mandomonster, ain't he? ;)

Nothing but goood stuff
