DSLR or Not for Sep. Video/Audio

Hi,

Noob. question here, and this is already discussed/answered -- just point me but so far I can't find it...

I would like to do basic Video and Audio as separate inputs, so I am reading about PluralEyes' capabilities, but they only discuss combining audio, from say, a Zoom H4n, and a farily expensive DSLR such as a Canon 5D Mark II... My question is do I have to acquire a DSLR camera, or will a less expensive Video camera (a cheapie Zoom or other), and combine Video/Audio using my H4n with PluralEyes?

So what are the options? I want to leverage my H4N, and am new to software like PluralEyes, but I need to capture Mic'd input with the H4N, and combine it with Video from another, yet-to-be-acquired video camera, ausing yet-to-be-acquired software?

I have the H4n and a Nikon d300s which has 720P video capability. The only reason I can think of for you to buy a DSLR is to be able to use lenses with a range of focal lengths and apertures. To achieve the same effect in high definition with a video camera e.g out of focus backgrounds you will have to pay thousands of pounds/dollars. You do not require Dual/Plural eyes if you use a clapper board (or your hands) to sync sound. The mic and audio DAC facility on all DSLR is crap so you could use a separate mic (I have a Rode Stereo Vieo mic) or the H4n. If you have a separate mic mounted on the camera it WILL pick up the sound of an anti-vibration focus motor. This is a disaster unless you have made a separate recording with the H4n

I'm actually looking at exactly the same setup using a H4n mounted on a Panasonic GH2. I'm going to be tracking the audio in my excuse-for-a-home-studio and using DualEyes to replace the audio captured by the H4n. Near as I can determine DualEyes doesn't know what quality of camera you used, nor does it care. It only matters that the audio file be in an acceptable codec.

I guess you meant to say "replace the audio captured by my Panasonic GH2" (with the audio captured by the H4n)?
