Drumset from Hell BFD - is this a triggering program?

I still can't seem to get a straight answer for this question. Is Drumset from Hell a triggering plug in much like Drumagog? Or at least, CAN it be used that way? I'm aware that it comes with pre-recorded loops as well, but other than that, can I apply it's samples to my recorded tracks?

Or would I be better off just uploading some of the BFD samples into drumagog? Thanks

no, it does not trigger.

it CAN be triggered, with any type of MIDI data.

Like if you export with drumagog as a midi file, you can use that. Or if you use a piano roll and make your own time signatures and velocities, you can use that as well.. .

BFD and DFHS (Drumkit From Hell Superior) are similar products. They have different samples, recorded differently, different kits, etc, etc. They also have much much different interfaces. They are both acoustic drum modules.

Like enferno said, you can trigger BFD or DFHS with midi data. Whether that be from a piano roll in your host, a midi controller or keyboard, or even an electronic drumset.

Now...which one to use, might you ask? Well, that's a subjective question.

Personally, I reach for BFD. The software itself is heads and shoulders better than that of DFHS. The sounds in BFD are also more...."customizable" so to speak. You control the level of the room mics, direct mics, and even the distance of the room mics. And it's all done visually. There are also some expansion packs for BFD. XFL, which is a huge add-on to the BFD library (adds more kits, more cymbals, percussion). 8 Bit Kit, which has tons of odds and ends like chains on bass drums...weird stuff...yet commonly done. The newest addition, which was recorded by Albini (Nirvana fame), is just awesome. The sounds in this pack were recorded in a smaller room with different drums and mics. It's called DLX.

And if that doesn't satisfy you, FXpansion (the guys responsible for BFD) have a tool that can convert DFHS sounds into BFD so you can use them with BFD's awesome interface. But why would you reach for that when you could get XFL and/or DLX.

There are TONS of other reasons I choose BFD over DFHS. You'll have to research for yourself, though.

I see Drumagog as more of a drum replacement tool than anything.

i like how customiseable bfd looks, but a lot of people seem to say that dkfhs sounds better. do u guys think the sounds that come with bfd are great on their own or the expansion is kidna required? anyone have any clips of songs using bfd (or dkfhs)? like heavish rock or metalish stuff?

I'll be honest...for heavy rock and metal, out of the box DFHS is your best bet as far as sounds go.

However, you can get ANY sound you want with BFD, you just have to work at it like a traditional engineer would.

The sounds that come with BFD are AWESOME and I love them. Personally, I do heavy rock/modern rock and metal. And I use BFD.

There is BFD, DFH2 and DFHS. DFH2 and DFHS are from the same company (EastWest). The DFH2 is a subset of DFHS and is strictly geared toward metal/rock. The samples are awesome, but you'll also need 1.5 Gb or RAM to get all of the samples loaded properly. I have no experience with BFD, but have heard good things about that too.

Now to anwer your question; as mentioned above, it is used as a virtual instrument (VSTi). It does not create the triggers, but uses triggers. IOW, you can program a MIDI map on your sequencer's piano roll, or have a real drumset trigger feed to a MIDI file realtime (or an electric drum kit, or keyboard, or ...). Then that MIDI map, once recorded, just gets sent to the VSTi (within your sequencer) and those triggers are replaced with a drum sample...very simple, but very powerful.

I have a demo of drumagog. Can the demo do this? I'd really like to try it out, but I can't seem to figure it out. I check the "MIDI Out" option, but the only options it gives me are "MIDI port" (under which the only option is "internal port") and then channel and note. Nothing about exporting a MIDI file. It's Drumagog 4.

Well, what sample libraries would you guys recommend for drumagog that are in the vein of DKFH2 (the really processed metal drums). I fell in love with using drumagog on my bands recordings, but I've never been able to find samples that are geared towards what I'm looking for. Any help would be great!

i thought dkfh and dkfhs were both done by toon tracks but dkfh2 was done by east west and lots of people have had trouble with 2 especially customer support.

bfd does look really intersting to me, looks like it would be a good learning experience but with my level of skill might be better off getting dkfhs
