I saw that in a lot of studios the drums are mounted on a small stage.
why? how to buy a stage like this?
thanx

The stages were built to isolate the kit from the floor and to provide a solid base for the kit to sit on. They were usually made of heavy timber and often filled with sand to give them more mass. Some had timber finish - others were carpeted while others had removeable carpet over polished timber.

no not really - unless you have a concrete floor - some engineers prefer the sound of a kit on a timber floor and these risers give that option.

What are the typical dimensions for a drum stage? Just curious as I'm planning my new studio and it will have a concrete floor. Should it also rest on neophrene, etc to isolate it further from the floor?

Size?....

Easy... Go to a music store, and find a drumkit similar in size and shape to the one(s) you will be recording and measure the "basic square" that it occupies... Add an extra foot or foot and a half all around, and make sure your measurements include the seat (throne)....

Vox,
Actually there's a kit sitting in my kitchen right now (that's why I'm building a studio out back :D ). I was just curious if there was a, more or less, standard size. Didn't want to cut my self short. Of course I don't expect a kit to come in like the guy in Dave Matthews Band

I can't get nothing by you John!!!! :D

Good point... But I sort of figured that the ones on display usually are set up with a few cymbals....

But sometimes the stores don't do that, so yours is good advice! ;)
