I recently recorded drums for a friend's track. They were the only live instrument, apart from vocals...recorded all the guitars in Amplitube and other instruments in Reason.

This is my first mix post/thread, so I'm wondering if you guys can share your thoughts on this drum mix. Being my first, I wasn't sure if you were looking for a contextual mix (the drums in the music so far), but I can provide that in a few days if need be.

So please, criticize. Make suggestions. Do what you do. I will say off the bat that I know the toms suck...I didn't have any tom mics at the time of recording, or enough cables to use other mics, so I know that's my first mistake.

Right now it's on mediafire in a wav...if you'd like it in an mp3, I can do that, too.

mp3 would be better. I'm way too impatient to wait for a wav to download. :)

It sounds a bit mono and empty, without dynamics. You recorded this all with one microphone? I was listening to this track on itunes and after your drumtrack it switched to another song, my ears still haven't fully recover :). But for a demo it's not bad at all, after some equalizing and normalizing it will sound good enough. What was your set-up?

Snare, kick, oh l/oh r in X/Y, and room. I've gotten some comments about the dynamics, and saying it sounds distant. I'm starting to agree. Some compression on the snare and kick has been said (and even on the room), lowering the oh's a little, and lessening the reverb.

Anything you'd add?
