Hello there I'll chime in with this.
If we're talkin' bang for buck here, drumwise Audix makes a killer package that actually works. It's the Fusion6 and the Fusion7. Depending on where you buy them and who you know, you can get either one from $250.- $350.
The 6 has 2 overheads, 3 snare/tom and 1 kick/floor tom.
The 7 has the same but includes a dedicated kick drum mic.
Speaking of kickdrum mics I agree that the AKG 112 is a great mic. Also you have the e602 witch is great as well. Plus last but not least the Audix D6 $200. but KILLER none the less.
For Guitar I'd check out Senheiser's e609 silver.
Unless you want some kind of vintage rock or 80's metal sound then go with the SM 57's. But if you desire a more natural sound, like the one that comes out of your amp, then go with the e609. They also work great for snare drum. I'm personally am using one F10 (Audix) for snare top and one 609 for snare bottom. It's a beautifull thing
For bass D.I.'s get the job done but if you want to experiment use one in conjunction w/ a kickdrum mic like one from the Fusion pack and blend the two sounds together. Point of interest here- D.I.'s are like CD players nowadays in that there's not much difference between them untill you drop some cash. Then you can get into the high wattage stuff like Countryman those suckers will take bullet for ya. You can run those puppys from your speaker outs directly into ANY line level device. Up to 4000 watts!!!
For vocals $100. can get you a e835 or OM-3.
Again we're talking bang for buck here.
Something else to think about is a large diaphragm condenser mic, because you can do so many things with them. Like recording live room sound instead of take by take. Or use it for accoustic guitar, electric gtr in conjunction w/e609
, room sound of a live drumkit or.....
DunDuhDuhDAAA!!! A really great vocal track or two.
The problem is do you want to spend $300.- $400. for 1 mic that does all that beatifully or $200. for 1 that does it sufficiently. There's usually a big gap in performance in those price ranges. Sucks but that's the truth.
I hope I've helped and not hindered your decisions.
