Is there any way to get complete drum tracks for existing songs? We have the weekend 2 guitar thing going, but do not have a drummer, and really dont care about a drummer since we are only doing it for fun. For example, there are a couple of alice in chains songs we would like to do, but it kinda sux without drums. I had been using my alesis drum machine straight into an amp that would at least give us a beat to play to. I didnt know if someone offered .wavs or mp3's for any song. Or, is there a software that enables you to extract the drumtrack only. Probably not possible, but had to ask.

thanks

Not to my knowledge. The drum removal software wouldn't be possible. You can get vocal removal software but that only works on a mono source panned to the center (like main vocals commonly are). A drumkit would usually be several seperate sources (including a stereo track for the overheads) and they'd be panned all over the place.

Don't blame you for not wanting a drummer though, theyr'e a pain in the ass, and besides they can't do anything that can't be done with technology. :D (just in case there's any confusion, yes I'm joking).

No, there isnt a way to only extract the drums from a stereo file. The only way to get like a drum sample of the song, is if thats the only instrument playing, plus thats a breach of copyright.

I have heard of extracting the lead vocal from a prerecorded song, but only if the vocal is panned directly in the center of the stereo field. But as with eliminating the lead vocal, the process isn't perfect. There isn't currently any audio software on the market that can analyze and extract only a single part from a recording. Instead, you have to isolate the material in the middle of the stereo field. That means isolating the vocal and everything else centered in the mix.

Well, it might be possible to find a midi file of the song(s) you want to do, remove all but the drums (and maybe the vox-line) from it and use that as a time-keeper..
You could even change speed, remove/add parts.. whatever.. Google: song name & midi
