What is the best software for drum loops, where you can create your own beats. On a mac using pro-tools. Pop/rock style music.

The package I've used is not intended for looping, but does produce the best sounding rock drums I've heard.

- Drumkit from Hell 2 (basic version)
- Drumkit from Hell Superior

I think it runs on both PC and Mac as either a Vst or Dx ... take a look.

2 Gig of RAM...really?! Is that a blanket requirement or is that something you found to work best with your PC configuration? Just currious...thanks.

Thanks for the respounse. I will check out the demo on that one. One demo I justed checked out which seemed great of Acid Pro. But I do not think it runs on Mac. But I read somewhere someone was able to get that into their pro-tools. Is there a way to convert Acid to mac?

It's not a plugin, but you can export the loops you make. And then import them into your recording software.

Here's some examples.

There's a FREE open source drum machine that works pretty well called Hydrogen for Mac. But it was premature when I tried it out a few months ago. Not sure if they've done any updates yet.

the recordings sound good. Are the drums the only instrament thats not "real" ?

Actually, I modified the nskit7 package by mixing them with sounds from my actual kit... for an authentic sound. So it's not *quite* cheating, haha.

Everything else is real. I thought that would be obvious. Maybe I underestimated my work.

Yes...they have different configurations that require a lot of ram. For example:

- Load the kick drum and pick your mallet
- Load your snare drum (top miced)
- Load your snare drum (bottom miced)
- Load the hi toms
- Load the low toms
- Load the cymbals
- Load the ambience mics

The newest patch on their download site now has a 'direct from disk' feature where it will load the beginning of the sample, and then load the rest when it gets used. This way, it won't load everything into memory...but if you want to load the ambient mics, then your looking at 750MB just for that. If you don't load the ambient mics, then you're using about 1.25GB.

However, they sound awesome so it's a non-issue for me.

I'm not really familiar with ACID or its files. But there's a program called Virtual PC that emulates XP on osx. make sure you have plenty of power if you get it though.
