I've been thinking about purchasing Drumkit From Hell. Anybody have experience with this software?

There seems to be 3 different editions available. The newest is the most pricey, $250. I was wondering if some of the earlier editions are decent enuff for hard rock/punk kind of sound.

any drumkit from hell is decent, the newer products come with their own plugin, which does make things easier.. but you can get by if you know what you're doing..

I have DFHS, and Ez-drummer...both work well. DFHS is better for harder stuff..more versatility in the kits right now. They are supposed to be doing an add on for Ez-drummer that is a Drumkit From Hell expansion pack.

I never got to try out DFHS but it looks pretty complicated.

DKFH is just what it states:

A drumkit from hell.

It's insane how much effort went into micing every sample. I've done some samples with it and it really does sound awesome.

Not only does it include the actual samples of the drums, but it also has a seperate file for each sample containing the signal from some room mics they place around the room.

I recommend it if you do lot's of sampling.

I have both DFHS and DFH, DFHS is much easier to navigate as it can be used as a stand alone VST plug-in. The kits sounds great and it is very easy to use and the entire kit can be customised - allows different mic placements and mic types, mic bleeding and different sticks etc. If you are not an expert in programming midi beats then check out www.groovemonkey.com you can buy a massive library of preprogramed midi loops especially tweaked for DFHS. The DFH sounds are amazing though - the Sonor kits seem a bit more powerful but you have to load it up into Halion, Giga Studio or some other software sampler...

So how do these virtual drum things work? I have no idea how one would use this software. I've never played with one. Is it MIDI? Triggers? What is it?

It's MIDI. DFHS is basically a VST virtual instrument. You can also trigger it with electronic drums.
I personally program it manually with a mouse by drawing in the patterns in the MIDI piano roll.

Okay thanks. So you would load this software, select the sounds you want, and then program the drums via MIDI keyboard?

Yup.

That's the way it's done.

There are other ways to trigger the sounds but that's probably the most popular by far.

.

I just bought this today and am installing right now. It is HUGE. Taking its sweet time to install. I'm expecting it to be awesome!

they are great.

if you can manipulate them well.

get real technical with them and know the manual, if you can master the program, it really sounds spectacular.

i mess with it, it works nice for me, but i've heard some amazing things done with it.
