how do i get that nice ampified sound with the drums, the kind that metallica has with their drums, i have a good drum set, with 4 good audio tech mics, im using Cool Edit pro 2, i need help, so please help me.

With a good, loud drum kit, a good, loud drummer and lots of compression.

so i put the compression on after i lay down the drum tracks, how do i get that surround sound thing going?

Play the drums through a PA and mic it. Then mix it in with the dry tracks.

I don't think that Cool Edit Pro is capable of surround sound output.

Its "mix tracks" feature only creates a stereo wav file.

As far as getting that "BIG" Gorgeous drum sound, that comes from a lot of work and experience.

That is like asking, How do I make my race car be the winner?

There is no simple answer to that.

Are you guys trying to tell him that compression is a cure-all for crappie sounding drums? And that it will make `em sound like Metallica drums?

compression, when used in moderation is great. Over compression is for the feeble. Plus, a lot of compression is only good if you have a good compressor, otherwise it wont ever sound like metallica... it will sound like steeletica, your garage band when you were 12 and your mom bought you your first cardboard drumset... not to mention your friend's homemade plywood guitar.
