I was sitting im my dineing room today when it came to me - what would this be like to record drums in!? - The room is a good size with high cealings (victorian house) with a hollow wooden floor. I know it wouldnt be somewere to use often but i thought id ask weather people would expect this to be worth a go for an unusual sound. Im asking first rather than moving the whole kit down 3 floors and emptying a room and then having no success!

Dont do it!
You are liable to like it so much, you wont have a dining room any more.

The space will give a nice sound, the floor will reinforce the low end of the kick. You could get by with minimal miking.

I've tracked drums in an old house as you describe and it kicked ass. Try it.

My studios drum room is just that. A dining room, wood floors and high ceilings.
Heh, its nice.

Before you empty the whole room I'd recommend breaking down the dining room table and trying it that way... if it sounds good then you'll have to deal with the bullshit from the women in your life but you'll have a direction [and a reason to pay for ____ to get them the hell out of the house].

Cheers for that - that was one of the things that got me very interested - minimal micing. Ill definatly give it a go at the next chance i get.
