hello everyone. i have a budget of $200 or under and im looking for a drum module that i can use to trigger my acoustic drums with and also add extra electronic pads and eventually build an entire electronic kit around. i need it to have a 1/4" output for amplification and/or recording. i definitely dont mind buying used or from ebay or whatever.

anyone have any ideas? all help is appreciated.

i ended up getting an alesis dm4 for $135 on ebay. anybody use this model? any tips or tricks anyone wants to share or reasons i might be stupid for getting this model?

I've had an Alesis D4 for years - even though I have better modules I still use certain sounds from the D4. I did trigger the D4 from accoustice drums using Hart triggers with an acceptable end result.

I don't think there is a DM4 - I think Alesis went from the D4 to the DM5.

If you did get a D4 I would think about $80 -$100 would be a more appropiate price - but it is possible the D4 is holding it's value more than I would have thought. In your budget range, I don't think you made a stupid mistake getting a D4 - they are old, but there are some good sounds.

I don't feel there are significant tricks when it comes to truggering the D4 Naturally, you need to experiment with placement of the trigger, sensitivity settings and drum head tension (which applies to triggering any module)- but assuming the module is in good working order and assuming you use decent triggers you should be able to make it work to your satisfaction.

which do you guys think is best? a roland td3, or an old alesis dm4/dm5?

td-3 because:

Chokeable cymbals
dual trigger snare
better sounds (matter of opinion I guess)

dont need cymbols, but.......

doing rock/metal and just trying to get some freaky sounds out of it, which has better sounds?
