I was looking at the drum mic packages on musicians friend site and was having a hard time choosing which mic package would be worth getting. I was looking at the package from shure and then there's the audix pack. I like Sure, because of the reliability in the other mic's (sm58's & 57's). So I was wondering who would you guys recomend, audix or sure?

i would definetly go with Shure if you have the money, they are a very reputable company. i'm sure you won't be dissapointed.

The problem with the packages is that the cheaper ones typically take one really good mic and package it with a bunch of crap and charge slightly more than the one good mic so you feel like you are getting a deal. Now, the Shure, AKG, etc....higher priced ones are usually pretty nice but you pay for it. This is probably your best bang for the buck

i second that, my friend has that kit and it sounds great.

I've got the audix fusion tom mic kit and I really like it. I just use the f10's for toms but the sound is fine, totally workable. If you need toms then get the tom mic package but you may want to consider getting a decent kick, snare, and overhead(s) mic. That's where a majority of the sounds are going to and the most important IMO.

I had the Audix kit, it was pretty good for the money, certainly usable. But I upgraded every mic eventually. You might find it's better to have 4 good mics (2 OH's, Snare and Kick) than a whole kit. You can get the GLS ES57's (SM-57 copies) from www.speakerrepair.com to cover the toms for cheap later. I'm using them on toms and they sound good, as well as MXL603s for OH's and a 3rd one on HiHat, and a Shure Beta52 on the kick. I'm pretty happy with the sound I'm getting.

as a drummer myself, I went for sm57s for my snare, and toms. Go for a shure kick mic.

i dont know too much about drum overheads and snare and tom mics but for sure look into the audix d6 for the kick. that's what i use and its great.

Yes it is!!!

It's all a matter of preference. From my understanding, the D6 has a more contoured sound, and the Beta52 is more "natural", if such a word can be used.

neither of them is very natural, but the D6 has more color (requiring less eq to get that "modern" kik sound)
