Why not post another reply?

Here you go there's a guy that really like sthe Alesis machine.

Alesis must do something right i'd say.

yamaha psr 225

Good alternative for PSR is Kawai K4 synth.

Same price more features, very nice kb (lead weighed).

Interesting mike, I guess I figured the QY20 would be in the same vein as the QY70.

The 70 is a badassed little synth/sequencer. It has it all.
From all the standard editing features, 480 clocks per quarter note, full envelope editing, filtering, EQ, effects...I could go on all day...in fact I think I have.

The QY700 is a monster. It's virtually the same as the 70 but with twice the tracks and much more memory.

very informed knowledge from you lot, I suppose I should move the keyboard questions to the appropriate forum yet it still is a cheap way of obtaining drums which is my main objective, and learning keyboards could be fun and add to the mix ever so slightly [oh for that impossible hammond sound], Jake, I just cannot see you being budged, even with a jimmy bar, from the QY70 - LOL - excellent no doubt but maybe not for me.

Now the Kawai synth, thanks Mike, I am off to the shops in search of availability and to check the drum sounds out and it is good to find out that someone else actually owns a Mt8x, I am pretty new at this and would like to have someone who would maybe share their wisdom on how to get the best out of one.

Now to bring you true believers down, I have enquired about soundcards for my computer and have had good advice but unfortunetly I will never be able to afford the good stuff, Is there a cheap soundcard that is OK and just ok will do?

thanks

Good point gmas32. In my early recording days I had the drums from my SR16 to far upfront but I didn't know any better. Now I don't use it very much but when I do I like to bury them a lot more and can sometimes fool the NON musicians.. :D

Maybe this is a common rookie mistake, but I'm a beat-nut, and I love pumping up the drums in every mix...

Maybe I'll keep that in mind and mix both ways- then upload to the MP3 clinic.

QY20/K4

If you need the sequencer get a QY20/70/100/300/700.

I don't know what your budget is but they sell between 80-600$

For the QY20 you need external fx on the mixer (Alesis quadraverb is nice) I bot a Boss SE50 that does its job pretty ok.

But if you don't need the sequencer so bad then i'd get (your on a tight budget i think) the Kawai K4,it got goos keyboard, good synthetic sounds a drumkit (or several i think) and you can use it as a (budget) masterkb and edit the sounds.

They QY20 think of it as a keyboard kinda synth the sounds are not very editable (no filters,no FX and no envelope if im right).

You cant really go wrong with either i think but what matters is what you need the most the sequencer or the sounds and such (K4 got built in FX i believe).

As a drummachine alone the qy20 can convince.

I think K4+qy20 for $200 is possible.

...and 2 midi cables :)))))
