Well I want to buy the best drum sequencer i can, with a sampler obviously, that is under $2,000

I was considering the new Akai MPC 2500. What are your opinions on this??
 
I really dont know that much about the new one but if your only doing drums with it, then the 1000 might be a better choice. You may even consider buying a used but decked out 2000xl. I'm usually weary of anything brand new and looking at the 4000 which had bugs for over a year, I would read up on the 2500 before dropping the loot down.

Either way, MPC is a good choice for a sampling workstation for just about everything. If you are looking for a dance machine, look at the Jomox stuff or the Monomachine both of which have solid sequencers

You might also give a listen to the Boss 880. It has a few more bells & features than the 870, a large LCD and an option to use a built in bass line or just turn it off and use the patch.

If you like FUNK, it has a gaggle of funk beats that make you want to record something ad lib or original.

It does all the other things a good drum machine will do. You can check it out on the web.

I love the 2500! But it needs improvements on it's OS. ( Which may come out in a few months.. )
 
i use the Boss Dr880 , its pretty good , The bass sequencer is really useful to me but I use it to trigger a bass patch on my korg ms2000b rather than use the build in bass patches in the dr880 itself. Took a while to get to grips with it , has alot of menus and it takes a while to be able to remember where to navigate to perform some of the simple tasks.

Learning curve isn't too hard. I dont like the AC adapter , I wish it had internal power (especially at that price) and also a editor for the computer ( it would be so much easier to plug in the USB cable and have all the onboard menus replaced with a more intuitive interface on the computer).

Can you give me a heads up on HOW do you utilize the bass on your Korg synth via the 880.

I have a Motif by Yam and plenty of bass patches.

If you want the serious business then try to get an Akai MPC-60. Google "MPC-60" and you'll find a lot of info and devotees.
 
Sure Hornet ...

Go into the patch section and build your user patches , then go into the song section and string them together. Make sure all the bass lines are programmed into the individual patches.

Go to the midi settings on the DR880 and set bass midi channel to (mine is 8 at the moment ). plug a midi cable into the DR880 midi out, and the other end into the Synths midi in.

Set your synth patch midi setting to the same channel as the bass section of your DR880 and your ready to go. When you play the DR880 turn down the onboard bass and voila , you`ll have your yamaha's bass patch play instead .
