Just curious to see who owns and uses what type of drums, computer drums, electronic or whatever.

My real kit is a Gretsch.

But I also have a drumKAT that I use to control an Alesis DM5.

I will also whip out the old SR-16 for scratch tracks.
 
I own a few acoustic kits and hand percussion. I'll be ordering a new maple kit as soon as I can save enough.

I use samplers, loops and drum machines when I have to. Oftentimes I find it's easier to lay tracks to a beat rather than a click, then record live drums afterward.

But I try to use everything I can get my hands on, really. Appliances (washer/dryer/hot water heater, etc.), the metal air vents, water pipes, oil tank in the basement... as well as kitchen utensils, pots and pans, empty coffee cans, etc. etc.
 
For projects in my homw studio I use V-drums, because I live in a condo and accoustice drums would be a problem.

When I record in outside studios I almost always use accoustic drums - either the house set (whatever it may be) or one of three accoustic kits I own (Maple, Birch & Mahogany) Even when using a house set, I will bring a couple of different snares and my own cymbals.

There is nothing better than a well tuned accoustic kit, but if the room is not ideal or the signal routing can not capture the drums well, then e-drums can salvage a session.

R8 is the best drum machine out there! I had one until my guitarist borrowed it and then he SOLD it! Jerk.... and he wonders why I won't ever talk to him again.

due to the fact that my new Imac is still somewhere in the Fedex transit lines, i sit and click with midi drums through reason, because my computer doesnt handle my drum tracks with ease.

but i use Ludwig Vistalites (ooh so sexy drums, but the suck for recording)
i intend to use drumagog replacer, as soon as the new computer arrives.

i would like to get a yamaha Dtxpress electronic kit and use DFH superior, but that is out of the question (money prohbiting)

they cause me erectile dysfunction- i dont do my girlfriend after band practice anymore because i have problems thinking about the drums :rolleyes:

the human feel function rocks

they can be picked up for £250-ish in the UK

all depends really, having a V-drum or similar removes the need to trigger & setup your kit accordingly

albeit I get emense satisfaction from recording acoustic drums
 
yeah, i bust out the sr-16 for click tracks and scratches too. before i had the equipment to record my drums live, i bought the damn thing to do drum tracks, and i'll never go back to it. you just can't beat a real set with real nuance. lately i've been hearing a lot about "sound replacement" where people will open the waveform in a daw and find, say, the kick and snare, and just replace the waveform with an electronic sample. wtf??? this is the ultimate in wasteful, shameful cheating. why not just use a drum machine; at least it's honest! why even record acoustic drums in the first place? it makes me cringe. it's worse than pitch correction. may God strike down the promoters of this horrific, abusive mutation of digital recording technology!

lol, yes the recording world is going to hell..........pod's, bfd, auto tune...........i'm guilty of using some of this shit. bfd, amplitube, reason. i use that stuff for experimenting, writing, scratch tracks. some day when i grow up i want to record with real gear. :D

Cymbals=Paiste + a Sabian 12" AA Rock Crash (Custom built by an old friend's drummer who worked for Sabian).

Hardware=Gibralter Rack + Assorted Gibralter and Tama pieces

All kinds of various LP toys (Just got the sambagos...Love 'Em)

Alesis SR-16
