Anyone know of a good, economical drum/bass machine that will connect with the MR8? Zoom DAWs include these in their multi-trackers already, which seems to be a big plus...

I stayed away from multi trackers such as the zoom because I feared that their "rythum guides" were very limited at what sounds you can uses programming etc.

$150? hell, you probably bought mine. I want it back damnit! The DR5 is great. You got a great deal.
Some other great options are using PC based drum sequencing programs and then sync with the MR8. (i'm not familiar with the MR8 and whether it has midi sync capabilities or not) Anywho, I use Sonar and the Session Drum MIDI plug-in. that way I can make changes easily on the PC to my patterns and not lose a track on my recorder and lose time transfering the drum track to and from the recorder.

Yes the Mr-8 has MIDI sinc capabilities. ANother reason I like the DR-5 is that with some headphones, I can put these songs together anywhere I want (as long as there is a power supply nearby).

exactly. i used it mostly for getting my guitar arrangements in midi format when i was at the office.. i rarely used it as a drum machine. i even did some orchestral arrangements in it. i also used it as a very poor man's guitar synth for single not stuff. it kinda sucked for that, though.

That DR-5 sounds great - time to shop...
I've been programming drums/bass in Cakewalk and converting them to WAV for the MR-8, but the DR sounds like it makes way more sense for stuff limited to drums/bass.

Yes, think about it as a drum machine with the rest of the band in it (it is called DR. Rythum Section) There are several bass patches, my favorite being the "acoustic bass" there are also guitar patches, synth stuff, piano harp obeo , organ , symphonic stuff like strings and brass and more. You have 4 different "tracks you can sequence on i.e 1 drums, 2 bass, 3 piano 4 strings) For this thing being older there is so much functionability to it. It only took me about a day to figure it out how to use it.
If you are like me (who is NOT a sequecing guru and cannot pay keyboard) this unit rocks and you are okay with not having the top of the line samples, sequesning patches, then the DR-5 is for you. If you can play keys then you can hook up a midi keyboard to record your parts!
A word of caution, like some of the other posts here the DR-5 has the capability to allow you to plug your guitar into it and trigger note for note sounds. This does not work too well.

Hi,
I have one too ! It sounds great with the MR-8. I even use it as the midi sound generator with my PC eMagic mixing software !
