It's just getting worse and worse. I can't play a single thing now. Not even one second.

Try any of the following, in no particular orden:
- Disable Antivirus software !!!
- Reprofile your card with the Waveprofiler under Options -> Audio
- Set your latency to max (in PA9)
- Defrag your HD
- Visit www.musicxp.com and do the tweaks
- Disable networking
- Make sure your soundcard is working properly (Check Device Manage)
- Don't run anything at all while recording. Hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete and then Task Manager to see what's really running...
- Pray...


- Get Sonar!

Even a Creative-card would be better.

Haha. I don't know what you have against them. It isn't exactly gonna improve the sound quality much and it costs a lot

What I have against Creative? They make poor drivers and poor audio-cards, that's a good enough reason for me...

I use an Audiotrak Inca88. 8 ins, 8 outs and low latency. It's a beauty... The price is/was around $260. It's a discontinued card, but I think you still can buy it. Searh the net...

This is ridiculous. PC defragmented, all programs closed. 3 tracks. I can't play at all, because of dropout. Sucks

Okay, you gotta get used to the fact that your soundcard is not made for multitrack recording! I'm surprised PA9 will even start...

I could do about 6 tracks of midi, as long as it wasnt voice intense, on the ac97 chip with my AMD1700+. The first time I tried midi and audio it wouldnt run it. If your budget crunching to the max, the Creative Live! value is $25.00 at www.compuvest.com

although myself, and many others would recommend going to the next level in sound cards if you could squeeze it..

for me, entry into the next level of sound cards would most likely be the Audiophile 24/96 they can be found from $140 to $170 online in severeal places. That has been the most recommended card for me, for the buck. Why dont you check in the "computer and soundcard forum" and read some of the more informed commentary there, I`m sure it would help in making a decision.

better sound, and less dropouts, if any..
drop in on the "computer recording and soundcards" forum and ask around. THere some folks that can give you guidance so that you get whats best for you want to do and can afford to do.

if you payed 140 bucks for a soundcard...., I figure the difference would be at least 3 x 140 to 1, or the difference between tap water and a Merlot.
