Hello , here's a new one I'm finishing up. It's been written for a while but , I never got around to recording it. Any nit's crit's or suggestions welcomed . Thanks for the listen .. mark

F'n outstanding Mark. Love everything about this. Killer groove, great lyrics, sparse - but not too sparse, spot on playing, and the recording sounds great.

I love this kind of music - you knocked this outa the park. Well done sir - I'm super impressed with your stuff.👏👏👏 Thanks for sharing. I'll be back around again to listen at least once more.

Well done! I agree with the others that it's a great tune and performed very well. My one comment is that I found the hi-hat and cymbal crashes to be both excessively bright and loud, and as a result I was focused on (distracted by?) those elements. I'd turn them down a touch and take some of the high end off - let the rest of the good stuff shine! Great job.8-)

Love it! Great Groove funky and bluesy, vocals are awesome. Reminded me a bit of Gregg Allman at times, especially off of his later day solo albums. Really love the mix and how you Pan the instruments hearing little details throughout the stereo Spectrum. Listened in my car on my way into work and it just sounded awesome. Well done!

@PorterhouseMusic , Wow ! Thanks for the great review of this one. I struggled with it being in a altered guitar tuning. Glad it worked out.
@BTStudio ,, @Slouching Raymond and @Eric V , I appreciate that and for taking the time to comment. means a lot .. 😁
@Gonny , Thanks for that. I've had the same comment from people when using this drum synth. (MT Power Drums). I'm going to revisit the mix , not quite happy with the low end. I'll take a close listen to the cymbols. I Really appreciate the suggestion.
@stratmonkee , Thanks I've always been a big Greg Allman fan. I Appreciate the car listen. That's something I Really need to do more of ..

This is a "close your eyes and let the groove hug you" tune, expertly produced and delivered. It's one of those situations where the timbre of the vocal and tone of the music jive hand in glove.

I'd probably nudge the vocal forward just a smidge, but that's just my preference showing, not a criticism. It's as fine where it is.

This is really good. Nice work, Mark.

Niiice, another one for the playlist!

You know I listen to about 6 albums worth of your music and I love it all... uummm thanks!!

The voice, and what else? That left guitar. And then the right guitar. That's where the conversation is in this mix.

Really nice, Mark.

Bass up a decibel? Feel *and* hear it better.

If we're making suggestions, bring it in one beat earlier after the cymbal count and speed it up 4-5 BPM.

Sacrilege but I like the way it sounds!

That's an idea - the speeding up - but not a serious suggestion, right? You're not saying 'rerecord it' right?

Hey dobro.

Absolutely NOT saying rerecord it! and not really expecting Mark to change the bpm, I just like the way it sounds.

@K-dub , Thanks for the review. I'll revisit the vox level again. I've gone back and forth a few times..
@dobro , appreciate that and Yes I'll look at the bass again. I've EQd it a little trying to get some boost without it getting muddy.
@HumanPlanet . I Always appreciate your suggestions and your support over the years. 😁
I agree with you 100% about the song speed. When I finished the song the first time , I Really wished I had recorded it 2 bpm faster. That was the sweet spot for me. I took the final stereo mix and sped it up 2 bpm. The Groove was there but .. I lost a lot of tonal quality during the stretching process and left it the way it was. I think I'll try it again and see if I can improve it with eq or something. Great call. I'll get back on it. I've been a little tied up the past couple weeks..
Thanks .. mark

maybe even +4

It's going to sound great whether you speed it up or not because it's a great song!

Here's something that happened last night. I wanted the bass a little more present, so I put a distortion plug on it and then raised the gain on *that* instead of a fader tweak. I have no idea if there's a difference between plugin output gain and fader gain, but doing it that way gave me what I was looking for.

Tempo is huge, it can make a huge difference. And how I play a song on any given day is a function of how I feel and how much coffee I've had, so I can't trust myself to record a song without having first played and recorded it at different speeds and then listened back and decided which BPM to do it at.

The link now reflects a Remix. I can't seem to find the "edit" button for the original post ??
Bass up 0.8 db/Vox up 0.5 db. Minor eq tweeks on master. 2 bpm increase . Got it sounding better this time. Saturation added to the final mix track (after mastering) That Really brought the kick and bass up. Reduced output to keep me @ -14 luffs. I'm learning a lot on this one just experimenting.
@dobro , I'm taking notes and will try that. Seems I'm always hunting clarity when distortion is what it really needs.
@HumanPlanet , I'm still going to experiment and see how far I can push the bpm without it degrading.
Thanks guys , let me know if I messed this mix up. ms

Just right. That organ is wicked when it comes in, and perfect for the stabs on the way out.

Good tune. The hats are way too loud and too regular in velocity. This is a chill mix and the hats are fighting that. You could also add a little verb to them to place them in a different space in the mix, but as a starting point they are at least+5db too loud.
