DP01/FX w/CDR

Recording Mag has a good article on the DP01, and a glimpse at the new one with CDR. pretty slick...$800 pricey for a CDR tho.

DP01 is really well done, and it has the EQ Knobs and Pan Knobs, very nice.

other option:
I just bought a closeout DVD-R and CD-R with SPDIF IN/OUT for ~$100(with rebate) at Ratshack closeout. Standalone and DVD's!
This would work too for a non-pc CDR, if you don't need to save track files.
I have the 2488 and rarely if ever copy all of the track files, maybe done it once.
Also at this point I can't hear a difference in 24bit and 16bit either....ymmv...

Music123 has em for $600 (no interest til 2007)..I just got a VF80ex/cd & so far I am at best, frustrated..I'm lookin for info on the DP01,,Is it user friendly? The VF will wear you out

if you can find a Recording Magizine they have a decent article on it.

very good review for what thats worth,(a bit skeptical on corporate manuevers and reviews?hmmm.. )

but they do cover what it does and also some adds with the CDR version. it does download the "back-up" tracks. and its a better read than Homes and Gardens.

i don't think it gets much more user friendly.
i gotta admit, i have the 2488 and its awesome...but DPO1 with the EQ and Pan knobs are very ideal for the analog-types especially. two thumbs up, just for FINALLY doing this.

$600 on the street..set of active Yorkvilles, frkn nice setup imo, small footprint too!

Depends what your understanding of "user friendly" is. For instance, I have a friend who recorded with a Yamaha MD4 for many years, thought he'd switch over to the DP01 but found it "too much" product for producing his music. There were just too many things that he didn't need that only hampered his recordings. I'm of the firm belief that if you wanna focus more on the music, you should look into Analog or at the very least something like the Yamaha MD4 or MD8, which is the closest thing to actually recording with tape/analog like ease.

i decided to chime in cause im experiencing the exact same thing..i got a steal with a korg D1200 on ebay..wonderful machine, sounds cristal clear..paired with a dmp3 its a beatiful sound..just gorgeous and easy to use...infinite number of tracks possible with the bouncing and the scenes...but its just overkill..very delicate, gets very very hot, has a million fx (especially the guitar simulation and stuff, that ill never use), drum machine is very hard to use, surprisingly easy to use, but still.....i cannot believe that im willing to sacrifice sound quality and downgrading to something like a tascam dp-01cd, but i am...i think it would just suit my needs a lot better..there's a lot of stuff on the korg that i will never use, and although i got it for less than what the tascam is going for, im really considering it...

Hey, my friend, I'm glad things are picking up for you on the gear front! Tho I still like to see you with a nice 244/246 and of course your fav the 388! Hopefully somethin' comes up for you. Keep an eye out.

maybe one day...i actually got a 2 track pioneer recorder now..so i can just dump to tape when i want that sound..its all fun, but its also highly frustrating..i now have everything ive always wanted and needed, and im realizing that in terms of recorder, its just too much..i shouldve pointed to something like this tascam unit instead...then get an external small mixer...add the decent fx and maybe compression over there, then dump into something. thats a simpler aproach, and a funnier one too i guess...idd love to be able to know my way around a small mixer, i love the damned things.

anyway, the sound on the korg is so good, that it just brings out every flaw, its incredible, i sincerely wanst used to this...especially adding the studio projects B1...a blanket lifted off the sound, but a lot more of my crappy bedroom and busy road ahead into it :/

anyway...something to look into in the future...my recorder is now on ebay..but as it is new ill have to ask a lot for it.. i dunno if someone will pick it up..but im wishing..
