DP-24- can you keep the panning of tracks bounced together?

I tried bouncing a couple tracks together- one was panned all the way left, the other all the way right. I assumed the new track would keep the panning, but apparently it didn't. Everything sounded like it was in the middle on the new track. Is there a way to keep the panning of tracks bounced together?

Also, if panning isn't kept from the original tracks when bouncing them to a new track, what is? I'm pretty sure EQing and guitar effects (including the compressor that's in the guitar effect section) from the original tracks are kept in the new track, but if anyone knows for sure, I'd appreciate if someone could verify it. Thanks.

Did you bounce it to one track? If so everything will be centered. To have any stereo separation you must bounce to at least two tracks. This has actually confused me for years and sometimes I still have to contemplate the condition. I think I finally understand. I could be wrong, though. I get frustrated myself because it seems so simple, still bugs me a little. I just looked back on this forum because I am unsure with my 2 mos. old dp32 about some things. Apparently choosing PRE or POST fader on the mixer screen concerns your second question.

What I'm still figuring out is what is built in SEND or INSERT? Yes I'm a musician not an engineer but the manual seems to lack some clarity. I'm still trying to grasp effects, dynamics, can I use separate ones for each track ? It's beginning to seem that only one or two can be used at once and take or leave it for each track.

I've gotten a little overwhelmed by all the choices and have defaulted to dry, no processing, or eq.

still experimenting trying to find a sweet spot. My MR8HD ( which lost Usb mode after 5 yrs) felt limiting at the time but I got more done and operation was second nature.

Got this DP32SD for exactly the same price.

well I'll try to post a track.

Nice little tune. Regarding guitar effects, yeah, you can only use them for one track at a time. What I was doing to get around that was using the BOUNCE function, not to combine multiple tracks onto one track, but just to put an effect on a track permanently. For example, if track 2 is open and I have something on track 1 that I want to permanently put a chorus effect on, I go to the guitar effect screen, put on chorus for track 1 (PLAY, not REC), then bounce track 1 to track 2. Then you'll have track 1 as it always was, and on track 2 you'll have the contents of track 1, plus a permanent chorus effect. I used bounce to actually combine tracks for the first time the other day, and that's when I learned that the panning wasn't sticking.

I was trying to combine two stereo tracks onto a third stereo track... Namely 15/16 and 17/18 onto 19/20. No dice with the panning.

the insert effects, those you put on the input channel assignments are recorded. The internal SEND effects, are returned to the stereo buss and hence not recorded until you create a stereo mix. External SEND effects are returned to where you send them. You can only use one internal SEND effect, or one INSERT effect at a time but you may assign it to multiple tracks/channels. You can insert the GUITAR effect onto only one channel. When using the GUITAR effect, you can also have an another INSERT effect applied on up to 2 other channels. Does this help?

It does, actually. Some of that I knew, and some of it I just learned now. Thanks.

That seems like it should work. As soon as I get a chance I'll try that and see what happens. Seems whatever you do when bouncing should be on the target. Should be a mixdown to the target track. There are so many little things that " can't be done" with these
units, but many have some
workaround if you can dream it up. I guess there's always a trade-off with these miracle devices. I don't see a 24 track 2 inch Studer or Neve board anywhere in my near future. Not to mention outboard and TAPE? 2 30 min. reels cost more than this Dp.
