DP-02 not stopped

a few times, the unit locked up on me, no functions. it would not even allow me to turn it off. the message said "NOT STOPPED' i had to unplug it, losing data. how does this happen, is something wrong with the unit?

The only time I have seen this message is when the unit is actually playing or recording and you try to do something else.
