Overall I liked it. The third track of vocals show be lower in the mix and should only be during the "Killing You" part of the song. ALso the "Im am" in-between the Killing You should be a bit lower as it is more of a back up vocal. The deeper vocal should be more previlent.

I think if the vocal tracks were edited/mixed as mentioned above it would be great.

No matter what, thank you for taking the time to listen and mix the song.

At least now I know the song can be edited and mixed with the files that are online since you were able to mix it.

Hi Peter,

I imported all the supplied tracks into Sonar 5 at 00:00:00

They are not synchronized but I found it relatively simple to start bringing things back into line.

The 4 guitar tracks and single bass line I left at 00:00:00

I then clipped the beginning of the drum track to eliminate the count in and then dragged it into the correct position to suit the guitars and bass. To halp me double check that I had it right I also imported the finished mastered track.

All I need to do now is line up the vocals and then I can start to play around with it. Ran out of time last night so perhaps tonight I can do some more.

That's what took quite a part of the 3 hours I spend I guess.. Most of the tracks had to be re-aligned. I wanted to tell in this topic on what point I placed each track (time-wise), but forgot to do that.. maybe later today, when I'm home again.

I will also look into that vocals issue.. To be honset I only used 3 of the vocal tracks + backing.. less=more sometimes (at least quicker ;) ).

I used the mp3 you posted in the mixing/mastering section of this forum as a reference where to place the tracks.

Ok, cool. I guess mix it anyway you think sounds good. This is a experiment for everyone. Something I think sounds good now might sound even better than I thought it could.

If so..whats the BPM (beats per minute) ????

Yes, it was done with a drum machine. I am at work now but I beleive it was 190bpm and the "Killing You" part was at 180. I think the whole song was 190 besides that. I can look when I get home if you need to knwo for sure?

For me each of the tracks start at 0. You might need to adjust them in your program.

Hmmm... I'm not that happy with what I've done... I suppose I could have come up with a load of smart arse excuses...

s'pose I should revisit it a few days from now... seems it's what the experts say.


anyways... here's my first attempt :-

Killing You SFU Mix

I've used all four guitar tracks and I've panned them as follows:-

100% Left - 50% Left <> 50% Right - 100% right

Don't ask why.. I just thought I'd try it.

I've used a compression plugin on the bass although I suppose it was pretty much compressed anyway.

I used multiband compression on the drums and I thought it helped to bring up the kick a bit more.

I experimented with the panning of the vocals with one panned centre and the others panned to varying degrees to the left and right.


As I said, I'd like to come back to it in a weeks time and have another go.

Very nice job dude! I guess the only think I would change would be to lower the screemed vocal track as that seems to be cutting through to much. I think the mix is really good. I like the bass cutting through a bit more than in my mix. Let me know if you give it another try in a week.

Thanks Peter,

I've just had a listen at work and I was worried that it might be a little bit to bassy. I'm going to cue up all the other versions I've collected from here and see how mine sits with those.

I'll definitely have another go. Last night it took me quite a while to suss out the vocal track song positions so my ears may have been getting a bit "tired". I'll take on board you comments regarding the vocals. To be honest, I ended up ruching it out and wasn't too sure which of the vocal tracks were intended to be the "main" track and which were "backing". You have one vocal low and two vocal high (from what I remember from last night - my memeory really is that bad) and they finish half way through the song. Once they've finished I used the other three tracks but I think (they were not labled as vocal tracks like the others) that there were two low vocals and one high. So I wasn't sure what to do.

The deep vocal tracks should go through the whole song. I think you are correct that they got split up. try and have the deep vocals for the whole song and the higher vocals only for the "Killing "You" part. So cut out the higher vocals eacept for the killing you part and the other back up tracks should sit good. If you want any other into let me know and good luck.

I'm not surprised that you got an error considering this thread is just shy of 5 yrs. old. :eek::)
