The difference is that both are still constrained within the laws of physics. Do the marketing guys ask the engineers to reverse gravity or make things go faster than the speed of light?
No.
And you are a straw man. Get some water.
My God! You are a fucking dipshit and I'd bet everyone at your company says so as soon as you leave the room!
No but sometimes they can't express their ideas in the correct technical terms and it sounds like that's what they are asking for.
No but sometimes they can't express their ideas in the correct technical terms and it sounds like that's what they are asking for. Or they will make one make one technical mistake and the engineers will focus on that and discount everything else from then on. Once they start insulting each other nobody hears anything that anyone else has to say. It can be pretty funny if you have no stake in the argument. I'm always fascinated by group dynamics. People are strange.
I'm a straw man? What does that even mean.......................... if I only had a brain do de do do deet de do. lol
wow dude you need to dial it down a notch. relax. You actually went back to edit you post to call me a dipshit?
I wasn't specifically referring to you anyway just this thread in general. Deep breaths pal it will be OK. It is Friday and awful close to beer thirty.
Only a dipshit keeps arguing when he has no leg to stand on in the argument and then tells somebody to calm down!
Are you kidding? You have to do that to win the internets.
You just don't get it, do you? You're one of those guys who shoots his mouth off at a bar and pretends to know what he's talking about when he has no clue. Then when someone who actually knows something about the subject calls him on it he tells everyone to "chill out"!
Dude, you are a joke!
You refer to straw men in your own post, and you don't even know what it means? Are you serious?!!
There is just no way in hell I can take anything you say seriously anymore!
I'm done with you!
G'bye!

I was referring to straw man logic. I'm not sure how I can BE a straw man. And I wasn't totally serious hence the if I only had a brain comment.
The statement: You don't know what straw man means therefore everything you say is null and void is the very definition of a straw man argument.
The irony is delicious.![]()

Well, that proves what a joke you are. Do you even know what irony is?
Stop posting. People believe the misinformation you are "contributing".
I can eat all I want and not gain weight. Gravity must not affect me the same way as you guys.
No I don't I'm actually surprised I can even work this keyboard. All these buttons with strange symbols on them whatever do they mean?
I've already stated that if I had known that this thread was about micing an acoustic kick I never would have contributed. I'm pretty ignorant in that area and have very little experience recording live drums. I also stated that part of the misunderstanding is my lack of technical vocabulary and inability to correctly express my point of view.
I never meant to infer that doubling up a kick does anything more than make it louder. Sometimes you need to make it louder though. Not in the original posters situation but if you are using samples or are given crappy source material you can make it work. I don't have a multi band compressor so sometimes doubling the kick track eqing each differently and putting compression on the attack works pretty well.
It certainly could be my lack of skill that causes me to have trouble archiving the same results with a single track. I could also be that my background is electronic music specifically acid and psychedelic trance and that is where I learned these techniques and I have carried them over to my current project which is a pretty conventional metal band.
I stated before that I rarely use this technique and would never use it to create a realistic sounding acoustic kick.
For some reason people want to ignore all these points and cherry pick things I've said out of context and use them to insult me.
You can claim the internet superhero out to rid the web of ignorance angle but lets be honest. You just like being right and want to make yourself sound smart by putting other people down. This is obvious from the way you quickly resort to insults and profanity. Even when you are 100% right nobody is going to hear what you say when you lace your arguments with insults.
I'm sorry I ever posted in this thread, I really didn't want to piss anybody off or get in this kind of pointless discussion. It's just hard for me to sit back and be continually insulted even after I have made my apologies and politely excused myself form the discussion.
At least I haven't lowered myself to insulting other members that were engaged in a otherwise polite discussion. I also haven't made sweeping generalities about people based on a few sentences they post on an internet forum. You don't know me and couldn't possibly know what "type" of person I am based on the small amount of information you have about me. Right or wrong there is no excuse for that kind of behavior.
Again I make the offer to agree to disagree (even though I'm not sure we disagree at all) and excuse myself from this discussion.
Sorry I said anything.
Don't expect any sympathy from me. You come here and assert yourself as though you were an expert, push the issue and your ignorance to the point of pressing others (me) into profanity out of frustration in trying to correct things back the truth and now you are playing the victim and telling us you really have a lack of experience.
Well... no shit!
Guess what? We all start out that way!
It's when we have the wisdom to shut up and listen to more experienced folks and be enough of a man to admit when we're wrong...THAT'S when you start to learn!
Trust me! There are guys here that pounded that into MY head YEARS ago!
I didn't get much sympathy from them either.
To be fair, we all have a lot to learn. I learned a thing or two from this thread myself, neither of which have anything to do with recording a kick drum.
In case you haven't noticed, due to recent events we need to keep all the users we have, and not drive them away just because they may be militantly misinformed or fail to articulate something to everyone's satisfaction.
