Door Construction

The main stop that actually stops the door is built into standard door jamb material.....................If you're planning on building your own jamb from scratch, you have more time and patience than I do :

Hmmm, Steve, since when do they sell "standard" door jamb material for walls with DOUBLE drywall? ;) (hence my drawng with double stops fastened, or you could machine it from 8/4 stock(hardwood)yourself, but that is EXPENSIVE. Easier and cheaper just to rip and ADD it.

Good catch, Rick; brainfarts are gettin' to be 'way too common these days, duh...

Actually I'd missed your drawing; what is the light blue hatched area about an inch above the hinge screws? IF it's supposed to be a seal, where does it fasten and which way does it compress? (Or, am I getting blind as well as stupid?) Steve

Anything you want it to be. Foam weatherstripping, neoprene seal, whatever. The point was a DOUBLE seal. I drew it like that for the sake of simlistic ILLUSTRATION. Not knowing what Michael has available, or his budget, AND this seems to be getting more complicated by the day. :p Its ONE door, in a TWO LEAF WALL with NO DECOUPLED leaf. How much more simple can I draw it? :D I don't know what Michael has for tools, his skills, his material availability or any other variable, so I tend to draw it as simple and as ALTERABLE to the WALL THICKNESS and other circumstances as I could. Thats all Steve.
