#1 - those are not egg crates - it's a type of auralex.
#2 - who gives a crap if a given rapper uses them. Just because he uses them in his studio is, imho of little importance. He is just as likely to be mistaken in believing that they work.

im pretty sure that he is not using auralex. It doesnt look like it. It looks like the stuff i would by for my bed at walmart. You know why? Because ive used it before.

And if it isn't egg crate, just wait a few months, after his one hit has gone off the charts and he's so in debt he's hiding out or selling drugs again, maybe you can buy the foam from him cheap.

Well i guess its no big deal. But i still dont believe its auralex. Ive got load of it and it just doesnt have that kind of texture. Its not shiny enough and the fibers look way to close together. It looks softer in a way. Take a look at the auralex pics. Its more of a glassier material than polyurethane.
Oh well.
And i also dont like the Neumann TLM103. In that price range theres plenty of other mics that are way better than the TLM103 in my opinion.
Except i would like to do some more testing with my buddies. But i tend to like the sound of the TLM193 a bit more. And what ive heard with the Soundelux U195 is incredible and a way better buy than the TM103. Of course thats just my opinion. Have a Soundelux U195 on its way now.

It looks lile a type of auralex that I have seen before. Might be a competitor's brand, not sure, but it was sold as acoustical treatment foam.
I personally am not a big fan of the TLM703. The TLM193 is a very different mic, and I'm with Darnold here, I much perferred it. However, im my opinion, which is not worth much, it is not as much a general-purpose mic as the 703, but I do prefer it.

They TLM193 is kind of a darker mic. Not really that it sits back in the mix at all. It just has a bit of a dip instead of a boost at around 4Khz or so. It is extremely versatile though. I personally like dark mics a little better than bright mics for certain applications. The low end and low mids on the TLM193 is very rich, and i like that. Its a medium diaphragm instead of a large. I seem to like that. Because its not quite as colorfull as a large but its more colorfull than a small.
Of course it still isnt the best mic for everything. Thats why i have the soundelux coming. Which is also incredible. This is the smoothest mic i have heard yet. Super tamed high mids but they are still present. Just smooth. Much different character than the TM193 cause i would consider it kind of a bright mic. However. Put the fat switch on and it sounds like a completely different mic. I have some mic shoot out samples that i can send. He brought up his Soundelux U195 and we put them up with my mics in the studio. Simple simple non scientific tests but you can still hear the difference.
