That's why I'm still on the "GT-3 crusade". Don't dismiss it because it's old or because of COSM modeling's supposed to suck.
It's the oldest of the bunch, I believe, but hey, B-52's are still flying, right? ;)

Hey and DC-3s too. There's a reason old gear, including pedals, is sought after by many players. I have all the old Electro-Harmonix stuff and though it's noisy by todays' standards, there are certain things you can't do with anything else. Same with analog synths and vinyl records. It all has to do with your ability to get what you want out of them. Hell, I've heard guitarists get good sounds out of Peavey and even Crate and though for the life of me I don't see how, they obviously took the time to make it work. That's why my motto is "Buy everything! Buy it now! Don't have children; just buy gear!" :D

Shut up speedfairy you little faggot, I'll post anywhere I feel like.

Hey I just bought one of those ProCo Rats at the swap meet for $5 a couple of weeks ago.

I have a couple of drawers full of boxes. I don't even know what I have anymore. I just scoop them up at the swap meet if the price is right. I got a Fender Blender for $20. That's the most I've paid for any of them.

Can we keep the name-calling limited to the Cave?
In the other forums i'm being (or at least trying to be) serious. If I want to call you a pussy, I'll do it in the Cave, not here. This thread is about what's good and bad about the Line6 POD, not about supposed sexual preferences.

I'm asking this completely serious: No roasting in the 'normal' forums, o.k.?

so, what's the story? you have to tell us now.

J, you wanna know thse story huh?

Here's the deal:
Speeddemon: acting normal in normal forums, making fun and lameness in the Dragon Cave.
Monty:Scared that Speeddemon might be funnier or even taking over the Cave, starts roasting Speeddemon. This roasting "culminates" in calling Speeddemon gay-names. Monty (who's age is possibly 40+ while Speeddemon's is sub-25) even continues the name-calling here in a normal forum. Speeddemon, knowing he gets roasted, asks Monty 3 times (1x in this thread, 2x PM to Monty) to stop the name-calling in normal forums.
Monty stays 'disobedient' and immature.

Finally, Speeddemon, being fed up with Monty's lame attacks, manages to outwitty Monty on numerous occasions (see Dragon Cave's "Homo-test" thread by Rats, and "Monty & Speedemon @ war" thread by Mr.Qcue.) Yet Monty keeps on re-doing the same lame "Speedfairy, shut up you fag" shit.
-End of Explanation-
I'm shure Monty will disagree and barge in here, calling me a fag once more. The guy is more predictable than a glass of Pepsi.

I'm here in this thread to talk about POD vs. others. Not about a 'tagged up' sexual preference. (Monty knows I'm more straight than Hugh Hefner... :p )

Why are you here? This isn't the fag forum. You don't have a POD, that's your ass you've been tweaking.

Here, Monty:

Did I say I was only talking about the POD? Nope. I have used the POD. It was really nice, but the presets are too much set on 'instant impress' instead of long term usability.
GT-3 has the same flaw.

Can you say Gerbil?

Monty,

Good job. Almost 1500 of your 2500 posts have been gay related. That is an impressive number.

Cheers,

Fangar

Way to go, Fangar!

You da man!
Anyway, Monty, you wanna talk about the POD vs. others, or do you need Dragon to fit you with your personal "SpeedGay" forum? :p

BITCH!

You poor little 'young' peepee boy. Get some counseling.

Thank you Fangar...uh, better watch it, he thinks you're "da man".

Well I've got one, though I've only played around with it for a couple hours....

You can get some great sounds out of it. It's only controllable via software, and it has a decent variety of Line 6/Amp Farm type sounds.

The trouble - and I've chatted with J privately on this - is I don't see a good way of keeping it all digital while recording. In other words, the Guitar Port goes in via a USB port. I haven't gotten Cakewalk to recognize the thing as a sound card, so... the only way I can figure to record with it is in AND out of the Guitar Port (that's one A/D-D/A conversion), then IN to my soundcard for a second conversion.

I recorded a track of distorted rhythm guitar that way, and it sounded pretty good for the needs of the song. But I used a laptop to control the Guitar Port, so I wouldn't be using my main computer's CPU running both Guitar Port and Cakewalk.

Anyone have any thoughts? J, have you figured out a way around the problem?

I've been trying to use GuitarPort with Sonar. At first I couldn't get levels into Sonar from the GuitarPort, but Sonar did recognize GP as an input device. After switching to direct sound mode in the GP preferences, rather than MME, I was able to get GP to record into Sonar via USB.

What is your OS? I would think GP will work fine with Pro Audio if you're running anything other than XP. GP isn't fully compatible with XP yet, though there is a beta driver available now, and Line6 says they expect to have full XP support by the end of May. I also heard they are working on an ASIO driver, which suggests they are planning to develop GP more for recording, and not just as a jamming toy.

So far, you have to use the GP to monitor your guitar. You can also set it as the playback device for your other tracks so you can record and monitor everything thru the GP. You can also run a line out of your soundcard and into the GP, which will allow you to playback your tracks thru your primary soundcard, while keeping the path from GP to your PC all digital.

I didn't start using Cakewalk stuff until after Sonar came out, but I believe Pro Audio has a wave profiler like Sonar. Have you tried running that? Another thing you might try is cleaning out the aud.ini file, and then starting Pro Audio...If it's anything like Sonar in this respect, it should automatically run the wave profiler and analyze your soundcard and the GP.
