I recorded that using a tascam portastudio MK1 as a mixer before going straight to the computer (oldskool built in soundcard....).

I think it sounds REALLY good...i had no idea i could acheive those results...lol

the only thing that i hate is how you hear lound "fuzzes" that fade in and out really quickly through many of the stops...that is from the way the bassist insited i EQ the bass (really high end and low end...etc......you know for that punk rock feel). so i couldnt get rid of that stuff...lol - all recorded with N-Track too.

mics:
-(2) Shure SM58's
-Shure SM57
-Electro-Voice N/D-267a

Overall,

for the medium, I would say that it sounds good.

There were some issues with clarity and tight low end.

Nice jam though. It comes hard!

Funk on!

what issues? i'd love to hear them, and how to improve. i use n-track to edit the wavs, etc.

Hmmm... the drums are poorly defined and the cymbals sound like they've been badly over-EQ'd...

The whole thing doesn't sound "together" - all the mix elements sound disjointed....

Musically, you're probably fine -- the vocalist needs to work on the timing of his phrasing, but it's very "garage band" sound from a recording perspective.

If that's the sound you wanted -- congrats! You did it!!! ;)

it sounds like the band was recorded using two decently placed room mics....hence you lose the "upfrontness" and "punch". With your setup and mics, you got a decent sound....ala garage sound, as coined by bluebear.

i see i see...

i keep seeing, all over this forum, "your tracks are very defined in thier right EQ's" and stuff liek that....like each instrument is individually great - and in thier own spot in the mix, and it fits in great.

and i agree with that, and can kind of tell as well. BUT - i dont understand at all how to do that...lol

anything ways of improvment you can suggest?
