Hey guys,

This is a blues/rock sorta instrumental.. I just want to know if it keeps your interest or did we drag it out too long (if so probably my fault!!).. I thought about putting some vocals in it, but I kinda like it as an instrumental... Anywho, hope you enjoy and I look forward to some feedback.

Volrath, you've put quite a few songs up in the last few days without really taking the time to give feedback on anyone else's work. You'll probably get much better response rates to your own stuff if you give a little on here as well.

I'll try and listen when I'm at home though fella.

Right off the bat, the title "Blues Jam" means that I'm never gonna listen to it.

So no, it doesn't lose interest, it never gains interest to begin with.

I got to 2:05 - don't know what you need here? The recording is not good it sounds like you just put a mic in the room and played? The tune doesn't go anywhere it rambles even for blues i'ts hard to know where it's going, there are some glaring timing issues.

I don't see you adding vocals to this one myself where it doesn't necessarily have the structure for it and you're kinda jamming most of the time. I like this kind of loose, live sound generally, and I listened through the whole thing, but I think you might lose the average listener with it given the length and the lack of variation. It was cool towards the middle where it really built up to something more energetic, but the beginning and ending kind of dragged I thought.

Sound quality-wise it sounded pretty live, and a bit rough. Which might be fine - not sure what you're going for with this I guess.

Thanks heatmiser... i'm not sure myself where it was gonna go.. it was just a jam that we recorded and I thought I'd throw it out here and get some feedback. It was pretty drug out though... Would like to go back and shorten the beginning and the end.. they maybe it'd be halfway a decent listen?? lol.. anyway.. thanks for the comments guys

Gotcha gotcha... Sorry guys. Will be more proactive..

Good stuff. Not trying to bust your balls about it Volrath - I just think you'll get more out of the forum if you do.

Re. the mix, I pretty much agree with Heatmiser. I can't see where a vocal line would fit and I think it probably works better as a live jam than a recording. As you say, shortening the beginning and end will probably help a good amount with this.

Thanks Rob.. I just appreciate the insight from you guys.. I've never joined a forum before, so.. guess I'm not familiar with forum morals lol... Trust me though, I want to give anyone as much critique as my ability allows. :)

we've all got ears so we can always critique :)

I get what your putting up, a live mix of some ideas...but as a mix clinic its hard for folks to comment...you may want to suggest to your bandmates that its time for a studio type recording

I think you'll get arrangement comments in here, which are good when theyre nice, but really not important..your songs are yours, your ideas are yours, people who play folk music may not understand or appreciate oboe jazz :)

but it does really help when it comes to mixing, then there are people who have great ears in here..but more importantly they can express whats wrong, or right, with what theyre hearing..that'll move you forward leaps and bounds

Not that theres anything wrong with what your posting, its just that you might not benefit much from doing it
