Hey George.
I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 9,
Possibly going to get Sonar, as I have till the end of the month. Still pondering that one.
Also, Roland's VS840GX, ART Tube Preamp, Dr. Rhythm 770, MX602A six channel mixer, external zip drive and books for everything. I could have more over there but I'm afraid to dig in there and start on somethng new. Been working with PA9 and the VS840 mostly. Geesh, I have so much new stuff I really don' t know where to begin.
Guess that's why I hang out here.

Hey Badgas,

Sounds like somebody's been to the toy store!

You may not believe this but I have Calkwalk PA9 and
Cool Edit Pro. And since I do all my recording in digital
audio, I've found I can get it done quicker and easier
in CEP. Now this is what I use at home. In the group
we use a Roland VS880EX.

I don't know if your like me or not, but when I get a new
toy I dive into it until I run smack into the wall. Then sadly go
dig out the instructions that came with it in the first place.

Hey Royston

I dont know If we should pray for some of the members of this bbs or rebuke their demons. But no matter what you say about it youwill not break our spirits and make us quit using our talents to uplift people and spread awareness, period.

And yes I also do some recording for God too.

And Satan If you dont like it you dont have to read this thread.;)

Hopefully this will help clear up any vague thoughts about where I'm coming from in my writing. ........... Hopefully.

Coming soon to a post near you,

I've done about 20 Christian songs in the past year ...... however, they are all in Chinese :D

interesting BHead.... are you Chinese? would like to know you more. :)

George, keep it up for Jesus! can't wait to hear your songs.

For me, I am involved in the worship team and play guitar and drums most of the time. Last Sunday I did my first worship leading! :) Praise God!

Currently I am working on some projects for my church to come out with Praise and Woship albums (English and Mandarin). Now we are in the midst of collecting songs and arranging.

Hello Leeking,

Congrats on leading Praise and Worship in your church. And speaking of Praise and Worship. I know most of you probably know the answer to this question, but there might be some that don't.

What determines wether a song is a Praise or Worship song?

Thanks George!

IMHO, song that glorifies God and exalt His name would fit to be called Praise & Worship.

opps, I think I misunderstood your question... :)

Hmmmm,
Praise - fast song
Worship - slow song

:D :D :D

Leeking,

Most would say the same thing. Actually tempo has nothing to do with it. It has more to do with the lyrics. A good way to think of it is Praise is horizontal, Worship is vertical. Praise glorifies God by declaring Him and His mighty works to the people. Worship, on the other hand, is us speaking to God or God speaking to us. But you can see how to most people a slow song tends to make them feel more relaxed and a fast song makes them feel more alert. And so they associate fast tempo Praise and slow tempo Worship. If you have the time, look at some of the lyrics of the songs that you do in your church. Is the song speaking of God or to God.

I guess some would say, so what. But it does make a difference if you are leading a group of people in song. Because you want to lead them to a place where they worship God in spirit and in truth.
And at that point you don't want them speaking about God, you want them speaking to God. The lyrics become a prayer from their lips in song.

Just a thought on Praise & Worship

George,Got a question...I'm not a Christian,I've got no problem with anyones religion...Just to get that out of the way..LOL
Now the question...You mention the prase and worship direction,
is there songs that come from the other direction from "the words of Christ" as taken from the Bible? Because you say basicly the two directions "about" and "to" is there a third "from" or am I being too literal?

Don

George,

ahhh, nicely said. :) I agree with you.

I was just kidding about the fast and slow song thing as I didn't have time to elaborate..... was rushing out for lunch. :)

yes, it is still lunch time here! ;)

Hey Gidge-

I still got your song, and I have worked on it. I need real drums to put with it, and it's missing something else. I have worked on it on the side, when I'm not in the real studio. I'll let you hear it when a good drum track has been added.

By the way. Yes, I write Christian music. Visit my songs at Nowhere Radio under Mike Gossett.

Here's what I've seen

It has been our experience that when someone asks us to do "Praise and Worship" music, they are really asking us to do something that the congregation (audience) can sing along with. While MOST all Christian music has the vertical/horizontal relationship, sometimes more of one than the other depending on the intent of the songwriter, the label of P&W has come to mean something else in everyday speak. At least, that's what most people expect from us when we're asked to play P&W.

Leeking,

heheh! I am a Chinese! But I just don't want to get into some ethnic/racial discussions (on top of some religious ones ;) )

Mainly I do Cantonese, as I am originated from Hong Kong. I want to do English too, but somehow the "mission" of my team (me, being a singer, and a guitarist) is to provide local Cantonese Christians with some purely Cantonese songs. We are so close to publish our first meditation album! :)

Sounds like you are working on some exciting projects at your church. Keep up the good work! :)

It's nice to have met you all here! :D

Hey Henri,

Thanks for your reply. And in answer to your question, I can sometimes be a bit vague in my explanations. Most people use
words like pin pointing the center of a target with a rifle. On the other hand I use a shotgun and try to hit the whole taget, wall, and anything else I'm lucky enough to hit.

But seriously, there are praise and worship song that are directly
from the bible, exactly as they were written. A good example is some of Don Moen's songs. But there again what are the words from the Word saying. Are they speaking "about" God or speaking "to" or "from" God.

I believe what will help clarify all this, is to answer the question: Can a Christian song NOT be a Praise and Worship song? The answer is: Yes.

All Christian songs should say somthing Christ-like, in that it would minister to the listener a Biblical or Spiritual principle or truth. That they might hear something that encourages them, lifts them, or hopefully causes them to think about their relationship with God.

A Praise and Worship song, is so called because it is to be USED by the congragation. They are no longer just a listener but actively participate in Praising and Worshiping God. These songs are used to lead the congragation to that place. The place where they forget about the troubles of yesterday or the pressures of tomorrow. For the goal of the Praise and Worship leaders,(I say leaders because I believe the whole group, singers and musicians, are leading the congragation), is to lead them to the place where, the Bible says, God will inhabit the praises of His people, not just the singers and musicians.

I hope I understood your question corretly Henri.

Peace,
<><

Thanks George,
I get it now !I always think that I can learn something from others !

Don

Henri,

I hope I never get myself in the position that I can't learn from someone else. I know that if I do, I will began to loose an avenue of creativity.

Here are the lyrics of one of the songs from our last CD project. This was by far the most difficult song I had ever written, due to its subject matter.

SILENT CRIES

She walked down the streets
Between truth and lies
Persuaded to the place
Where living is denied
As fear began to rage
Deep inside her mind
She heard the prayers of those
On the battle line

She turned around to see
A woman in the crowd
And nestled in her arms
There was a child
And in her eyes
She found no comdemnation
She saw the love of Christ........
In her smile

(Chorus)
As they were praying for.....

Silent cries
Of silent lives
Standing on the wall
For every miricle of life
Silent cries
Of silent lives
Can you here the silence......
Of their lives

It was the first time my mother
Could see beyond the veil
Into my life
That grew inside
She ran to the truth
And turned away from the lies
Because of those who prayed
For my life

Now the years have come and gone
But battle rages on
Between truth and lies today
I pray that eyes are opened
Before lives are broken
And another life is thrown......
Thrown away

And thats why I'm praying for......

(Chorus)
The silent cries
Of silent cries
Standing on the wall
For every miricle of life
Silent cries
Of silent lives
Can you hear the silence
Of their lives

Can you hear the silence
Can you feel the pain
Can you see the tears
That keep on falling like rain
Can you hear the battle
Can you take the time
Can you kneel and pray
Down on the battle line......

Can you pray with me now.....

(Chorus)
For silent cries
Of silent lives
Stand on the wall
For every miricle of life
Silent cries
Of silent lives
Can you hear the silence......
Of their lives
